What is the new QR Code-based verification system?
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) plans to launch a new mobile application that will allow users to share their e-Aadhaar in the form of a QR code. In this new system, users can choose between two options based on their needs:
- Full Aadhaar: Where all the information on the Aadhaar will be shared.
- Masked Aadhaar: Where only basic information like name, address, and photograph will be visible, and the Aadhaar number will remain hidden.
Why was this new method necessary?
The use of Aadhaar card photocopies carries several risks. It is often seen that these photocopies are misused, leading to people falling victim to fraud. The new QR code-based system will address these issues and give users complete control over their personal information. No one will be able to use the Aadhaar information without consent, taking data security to a new level. UIDAI has already urged various state governments to implement this system at property registration offices to prevent fraud.
