No More Aadhaar Photocopies, UIDAI to Launch New QR Code-Based Verification

Aadhaar: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to introduce a major change in the Aadhaar verification process. The practice of submitting Aadhaar card photocopies will soon become a thing of the past. Instead, identity will be verified through a new mobile app-based QR code scanning process. This move is expected to not only make the process more secure but also more convenient for the general public.
What is the new QR Code-based verification system?
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) plans to launch a new mobile application that will allow users to share their e-Aadhaar in the form of a QR code. Through this app, any individual can send their Aadhaar information from their mobile to another person’s mobile or from one app to another. This will eliminate the need for physical documents for identity verification.
In this new system, users can choose between two options based on their needs:
- Full Aadhaar: Where all the information on the Aadhaar will be shared.
- Masked Aadhaar: Where only basic information like name, address, and photograph will be visible, and the Aadhaar number will remain hidden.
Why was this new method necessary?
The use of Aadhaar card photocopies carries several risks. It is often seen that these photocopies are misused, leading to people falling victim to fraud. The new QR code-based system will address these issues and give users complete control over their personal information. No one will be able to use the Aadhaar information without consent, taking data security to a new level. UIDAI has already urged various state governments to implement this system at property registration offices to prevent fraud.
What are the benefits for the general public?
This new method offers multiple advantages:
- Security: Your Aadhaar information will be much more secure than before. With the option of masked Aadhaar, you can keep unnecessary information private.
- Convenience: There will be no need to carry photocopies of your Aadhaar card anymore. Identity verification will be possible with just a smartphone.
- Faster Process: The identity verification process at places like hotels, on trains, or elsewhere will be completed much faster.
- Control: No one can access your Aadhaar information without your consent, which will give you peace of mind.
How to use this new facility?
UIDAI will soon launch this new mobile app. Once the app is live, users can follow these steps to use the facility:
- Download the official UIDAI app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Log in to the app to access your e-Aadhaar.
- Generate the QR code as needed (Full or Masked).
- Share this QR code for verification.
This new initiative is a significant step towards Digital India and will ensure that the identity verification process for Indians is secure, fast, and convenient.
