Voter List Verification: Now Starting in West Bengal! See What You Need to Do

Voter List Verification: The West Bengal Election Commission has announced the start of a new voter card verification process in the state, a crucial step for all its citizens. It is reported that this process may begin from August of this year.

The main objective of this initiative is to prepare an accurate and transparent voter list, which will serve as the foundation for the upcoming assembly elections. The primary goal of this verification process is to ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote in this great festival of democracy. In this article, we will discuss various aspects of this verification process in detail, such as the schedule, required documents, and other important information, so that you can easily participate in the process.

Detailed Schedule and Process

According to sources from the Election Commission, this verification process will be completed in several phases.

  • Initial Phase: There is a plan to start this verification process from August. During this time, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will go door-to-door to collect and verify voters’ information.
  • Draft List Publication: After verifying all the information, a draft voter list will be published at the beginning of November. This list will be open to the public so that citizens can check their names and information.
  • Acceptance of Claims and Objections: After the publication of the draft list, applications for claims and objections will be accepted for a specific period.
  • If there is any mistake in your name or if your name is not on the list, you can apply by filling out the necessary form within this period.
  • Final Voter List: After settling all claims and objections, a final and accurate voter list will be published at the beginning of next year. This final list will be used for the upcoming elections.

Instructions Regarding Documents

Some important points must be kept in mind regarding the submission of documents in this verification process.

  • Those whose names were included in the voter list during the 2002 survey do not need to submit any new documents.
  • This is a big advantage as it will simplify the process for many citizens.
  • Similarly, the children of individuals on the 2002 list will not need to submit any additional documents as proof of their parents’ identity.

Opportunity for Inclusion in the Voter List

Even if your name is not on the final voter list for some reason, there is no need to be disheartened. The Election Commission has stated that there will be an opportunity to get names included in the voter list until the nomination process for next year’s assembly elections begins. For this, you will have to apply with the necessary forms and documents.
