SSC Exam Hearing: Supreme Court Announces Hearing Date for SSC Challenge Case, Will the Gazette Be Cancelled?

SSC Exam Hearing: The hearing for the case related to the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) is finally set to take place in the Supreme Court. Job aspirants had approached the highest court challenging the verdict of Justice Arindam Mukherjee’s single bench, and the hearing for that case has been scheduled for July 21st. This day is significant not only for this case but also because it is the last day for filling out the WBSCC form and also the hearing date for a contempt of court case against the Chief Minister.

Background of the Case

At the root of this case are several controversies surrounding the new gazette and examination procedures of the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC). The main points of contention among the job aspirants are:

  • Examination Rules: There is confusion about whether the examination will be conducted according to the 2016 rules or the new 2025 rules.
  • Eligibility of Tainted Candidates: Questions have also been raised about whether “tainted” or ineligible candidates will be allowed to sit for the exam.
  • 10 Marks for Teaching Experience: The new rules mention awarding 10 marks for teaching experience, which has met with strong opposition from new job aspirants.
  • Age Limit: There is also complexity regarding the age relaxation. The High Court and the School Service Commission have stated that only teachers employed in 2016 will get the benefit of age relaxation, not new candidates. This decision has created dissatisfaction among new aspirants, and they have approached the Supreme Court regarding this matter as well.

Concerns of New Job Aspirants

With no new examinations for the past 10 years, new job aspirants are facing immense difficulties. Their main demand is the cancellation of the 10 marks allotted for teaching experience. They want the examination and recruitment process to be transparent and fair so that no recruitment panel is cancelled in the future. According to them, if the examination is conducted fairly, they are ready to accept any rules.

The Role of the Supreme Court

The hearing of this case will take place in Court No. 14 of the Supreme Court. The highest court will now decide whether the gazette published by the School Service Commission is valid. Since this gazette was published under the direction of the Supreme Court, the verdict of this case will be extremely significant.

All the job aspirants are now looking towards July 21st, as their future depends on the verdict of this day. This hearing is not just the settlement of a legal battle; it will determine the fate of thousands of job aspirants in the state.
