WBSSC Edit Option: Big Update on OBC Category & Photo Upload! Don’t Make These Mistakes

WBSSC Edit Option: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has issued a new notice to clear up two major points of confusion regarding the application edit option. In its notice dated August 7, 2025 (Memo No: 1521 /7016/CSSC/ESTT/2025), the Commission has provided clear answers to questions many candidates had about updating ‘OBC category details’ and ‘photo with signature’. If you are an applicant, these guidelines are extremely important for you.

Guidelines on OBC Category and Certificate

Many applicants were confused following changes to OBC sub-categories based on a new Labour department notification dated June 10, 2025. The Commission has clarified the following points:

  • Which Category to Enter? Applicants should use the status as per the new sub-category details provided in the said notifications.
  • Is the OBC Certificate Number Mandatory? No, this field is NOT A MANDATORY FIELD.
    • If you have an old, manually issued certificate, you should enter that number for future reference and verification.
    • If you are a new entrant or do not have a certificate yet, you can leave the field blank.
  • When will Verification Happen? The actual, physical verification of category details will only be conducted after the publication of the written examination results.
  • An Important Note: Any final decision regarding OBC categorisation will be subject to the outcome of pending legal proceedings.

New Update on Photo and Signature Upload

Many were wondering if they needed to re-upload their previously submitted photo and signature. The Commission has stated:

  • No Need to Re-upload: If you have already uploaded a clear photo with a clearly legible signature at the bottom, there is no need to re-upload it.
  • Who Should Re-upload? This opportunity is primarily meant for those candidates who uploaded their photo and signature incorrectly the first time.
  • A Stern Warning: Please note that incorrect and/or incomplete uploading of your photo and signature will lead to the cancellation of your candidature. This matter should be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Finally, the Commission’s message is very clear. There is no reason to worry if you have filled out your application correctly. However, it is wise to review your application one more time. If you find any mistakes, correct them immediately by following the guidelines provided by the Commission.
