Interest Rates for Small Savings Schemes have been Announced, What is the Interest Rate for Which Scheme? Know the Details

Small Savings Schemes: The Government of India has recently announced the interest rates for small savings schemes for the third quarter (October 1 to December 31) of the financial year 2025-26. Although it is not good news, there is no reason to worry, as there has been no change in the interest rates. That is, like before, the same rate of interest will be available on PPF, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Senior Citizen Savings Scheme and other schemes.

Interest rates in various schemes

Let’s see what percentage of interest is available in which scheme:

  • Post Office Savings Account: 4%
  • 1-year time deposit: 6.9%
  • 2-year time deposit: 7.0%
  • 3-year time deposit: 7.1%
  • 5-year time deposit: 7.5%
  • 5-Year Recurring Deposit (RD): 6.7%
  • Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS): 8.2%
  • Monthly Income Scheme (MIS): 7.4%
  • National Savings Certificate (NSC): 7.7%
  • Public Provident Fund (PPF): 7.1%
  • Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP): 7.5% (doubles in 115 months)
  • Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY): 8.2%

Concerns over PPF interest rate

The interest rate of the Public Provident Fund (PPF), which is very popular among the salaried class, has remained stable at 7.1 percent for the last 69 months, which is almost six years. Many investors are disappointed that the interest rate has not been increased for a long time. The government has not yet given any clear indication as to when this rate will be increased. However, many believe that a stable and reliable interest is available, which is financially stable.

Although the interest rates on small savings schemes have not increased, they are still an excellent option for safe investment. Especially in schemes like Senior Citizen Savings Scheme and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, attractive interest rates are still available. Choose the right scheme according to your financial goals and continue investing.
