WBBPE Sports Meet: WBBPE Postpones 41st State Level Annual Sports Meet 2025, Revised Schedule to be Announced Shortly
WBBPE Sports Meet: The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has issued an important notification to all District Primary School Councils, announcing the postponement of the 41st State Level Annual Sports Meet, 2025. This sudden decision has sparked considerable discussion among students, teachers, and guardians. The Board has cited ‘unavoidable circumstances’ as the reason for this postponement.
Why has the competition been postponed?
According to Memo No. 2352(22)/WBBPE/2025/27S-11/2023 issued by the Secretary of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education on 15th November 2025, this decision was taken due to certain ‘unavoidable circumstances’. The notification does not provide any detailed explanation for these reasons, leading to speculation in various quarters. Typically, the Board takes such steps only when faced with significant administrative or infrastructural challenges. However, the Board has assured that a new schedule for the sports meet will be announced as soon as the situation normalises. The Chairman/Chairperson of all District Primary School Councils has been instructed to take necessary action in this regard.
What was the original schedule?
Previously, the Board had announced the detailed schedule for the sports meet through a notification dated 7th November 2025 (notification no. 2306/WBBPE/2025/27S-11/2023). According to that schedule:
- The competitions from the Circle level to the District level were scheduled to be held from 17th November to 6th December 2025.
Schools across various districts had already begun their preparations based on this timeline. Students had also been practicing for a long time for this competition. However, with the Board’s new directive, all these preparations have come to a temporary halt.
Next Steps and New Dates
The Board has clearly stated in its notification that the revised schedule for the 41st State Level Annual Sports Meet will be declared very shortly. This means that the competition has not been cancelled, but merely postponed.
All students, teachers, and guardians are requested to keep an eye on the Board’s official website (https://wbbpe.wb.gov.in) for updates. All information regarding the new dates will be available there once announced. The District Primary School Councils have also been asked to wait for further instructions from the Board. School authorities are urged to ensure that the morale of the students is not affected by this postponement. It is hoped that the Board will soon overcome all obstacles and organise this annual sports meet with renewed vigour.
