SSC Protest: Job Aspirants Protest on Streets against 10 Marks for Experience Despite High Scores
SSC Protest: Confusion and protests have once again surfaced regarding the teacher recruitment process in the state. Although the recruitment drive began after a long wait, a section of new job aspirants has expressed severe frustration. Their main grievance is that despite scoring full marks or near-full marks in the written examination, they are not getting calls for interviews solely due to the extra marks allotted for experience. They view this incident directly as ‘government deprivation’.
Losing to Experience Despite Merit?
New candidates allege that they are not lagging in merit or qualification. In the written examination, some have scored a perfect 60 out of 60, while others have secured 59. However, despite such excellent scores, they were not called for the interview board. They have identified the additional 10 marks given for experience as the root cause. According to them, these 10 marks are defeating the merit of freshers against experience.
Protesting candidate Sairabanu Ahmed expressed her anger, stating, “The Commission took the exam after ten years. And even after that, new candidates are being deprived. These ten marks are actually a black curtain. The government is using it to favor the ‘eligible’ ones to hide its corruption.”
Moving to Court and Street Protests
The new job aspirants have already approached the High Court to press their demands. However, considering the lengthy judicial process, they have been forced to take to the streets. Earlier, on November 17 and 18, their attempts to march to Karunamoyee and Bikash Bhavan faced police obstruction. Currently, permission has been sought for a procession from Bidhannagar Commissionerate and Bidhannagar North Police Station, but the police have not yet granted approval.

Once the recruitment process is completed, we will be deprived. We will snatch our rightful demands through agitation.”
3 Main Demands of the Aspirants
The protesting new job candidates are continuing their agitation with three specific demands:
- Cancellation of Experience Marks: The 10 marks allotted for experience should not be given to in-service teachers in any way.
- Increase in Vacancies: Approximately 13,000 additional vacancies must be created immediately.
- Transparency: To maintain transparency in the recruitment process, OMR sheets of all candidates must be made public.
Timeline of Agitation
A timeline of the recent protests by the new job aspirants is given below:
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| November 17 | March from Karunamoyee to Bikash Bhavan. Road blockade near Central Park for about seven hours. Police removed them. |
| November 18 | Gathering at Karunamoyee for Service Commission raid, detained by police. |
| Current Status | Permission sought for procession from Bidhannagar Commissionerate, but not yet received. |
Constitutional Rights and Allegations of Deprivation
The agitators have also raised the issue of fundamental rights under the Constitution. Candidate Saiful Hasan said, “According to Article 16 of the Fundamental Rights of the Constitution, everyone is supposed to be given equal rights. And here, the government is pushing the new ones into darkness to facilitate the ‘eligible’ ones.”
Fearing that they will be permanently deprived once the recruitment process is completed, these new job aspirants of the state want to walk the path of continuous agitation without waiting for the court’s verdict.
