Special TET 2025: Big Update on Special Educator Recruitment, Primary Board to Conduct Exam
Special TET: The West Bengal School Education Department has taken a groundbreaking step in the teacher recruitment process. Ensuring the right to education for children with special needs and smoothing the path for teacher recruitment by clearing legal hurdles, the department has finally given the green light to conduct the ‘Special TET’. This significant announcement was made through a notification published on December 1, 2025, bringing relief to thousands of job aspirants in the state.
What is in the New Order from Bikash Bhavan?
Through a special memo, the State School Education Department has entrusted the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) with the full responsibility of conducting this exam. The Additional Secretary of the department has directly sent this instruction to the Secretary of the Board. According to the directive, this special eligibility test will be conducted for the recruitment of ‘Special Education Teachers’ in government-aided and government-sponsored Primary and Junior Basic Schools across the state.
Key details regarding this directive are provided below:

Why is This Important for Candidates of 2308 Posts?
Last November, the Primary Board published a notification for the recruitment of 2308 Special Educator posts. A major condition there was that applicants must be TET qualified. However, many eligible candidates possessing degrees or diplomas in Special Education were worried about their application status as they had not passed the general TET. The Board had previously stated that a separate TET would be conducted for these candidates.

- Candidates trained in Special Education who have not passed TET will get an opportunity to sit for this exam.
- Upon qualifying in this exam, they will be considered eligible for recruitment to those 2308 vacancies.
Legal Aspects of Recruitment and Future Steps
Despite long standing orders from the Supreme Court, the recruitment of Special Educators in the state was stalled. This move by the Education Department proves that the state government intends to complete the recruitment quickly by avoiding legal complications. The letter clearly mentions that the exam will be conducted following the ‘Extant Rules’.
All eyes are now on the Primary Education Board. After receiving the green signal from the Education Department, it is expected that the Board will very soon announce the following on their official website:
- Detailed syllabus for the Special TET.
- Date of the examination.
- Dates for Admit Card download.
Job aspirants are advised to keep a regular watch on the Board’s website and trusted news portals. It is likely that not much time will be available for exam preparation and other processes.
