SIR 2026 Hearing: Teachers Leave Cancelled! Strict Guidelines for West Bengal Schools

SIR 2026 Hearing: A significant directive has been issued regarding the education sector in West Bengal, which is of utmost importance for the Head Teachers of primary schools across the state. The hearing process for the Special Intensive Revision or SIR 2026 is currently underway throughout West Bengal. Considering the gravity of this task, the DI of Schools (Primary), Hooghly, has released an important notification. Although this notification is specific to the Hooghly district, the nature of the work makes it relevant for schools in other districts across the state as well.

The core subject of this directive is to ensure the active participation of schools and the presence of teachers in the special revision or hearing process of the electoral roll. Issued on December 26, 2025, the notification clarifies that strict restrictions on leave will be in place for the concerned teachers and officials until this work is completed.

Context and Reason for the Directive

During the SIR 2026 hearing process, verification of birth dates has become necessary for many citizens. Especially for those who do not possess a Birth Certificate, the school’s Admission Register or enrollment documents serve as the primary alternative source of verification. Election Commission officials or relevant authorities are approaching school administrations to verify this data. To ensure there is absolutely no delay in this process, these specific guidelines have been issued.

Strict Instructions for Head of Institutions (HOI)

The DI of Schools (Primary), Hooghly, has outlined several specific responsibilities and restrictions for Head Teachers:

  • Verification and Prompt Reply: Head Teachers must verify the applicant’s date of birth from the Admission Register, Transfer Certificate (TC) Register, or other available documents. After verification, the signed information must be sent to the appropriate authority via email within 2 days.
  • Mandatory Presence in School: Head Teachers must remain present at the school until this verification process is complete. Even if the 2-day deadline falls on a holiday or Sunday, they may be required to attend school to complete the task.
  • No Station Leave: During this period, Head Teachers cannot leave their station (“Will not leave station”). Personal leave applications will generally not be entertained during this time.
  • Emergency Situations: If leave is required due to an extreme emergency or unavoidable reason, prior permission must be obtained from the Higher Authority.

Role of Sub-Inspectors (SI of Schools)

Not only Head Teachers, but Sub-Inspectors of Schools (SIs) have also been given specific instructions regarding this process:

  • Monitoring: SIs have been instructed to monitor the entire process closely. It is their responsibility to ensure that Head Teachers are submitting the correct information within the stipulated time.
  • Restrictions on Leave: SIs are also directed not to take casual leave during this period. In case of an emergency, they must seek permission from the Competent Authority before proceeding on leave.

This directive makes it clear that the administration is giving the highest priority to the SIR 2026 work. The role of schools is undeniable in maintaining the transparency of the electoral roll and providing correct information for citizens. Therefore, teachers and concerned officials are instructed to remain alert and active until the process is fully completed. Teachers are advised to regularly check their official emails and departmental instructions.
