SSC Case Update: 35 Cases Hearing in High Court on Jan 2, Will the Recruitment Knot Finally Untie?

SSC Case Update: Following the winter vacation, significant developments are being observed today, January 2, 2026, in the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment cases at the Calcutta High Court. Approximately 35 to 40 cases related to the SSC’s 2nd SLST are listed for hearing in the courtroom of Justice Amrita Sinha (Court No. 18). After a long wait, today’s hearings are poised to be crucial for aspiring candidates.

New Legal Hurdles Regarding OBC Category

One of the primary issues listed for today’s hearing involves complications with the OBC category reservation. Previously, disputes arose regarding SC, ST, and PH candidates being treated as General category candidates. Now, a similar issue has surfaced for OBC-A and OBC-B category candidates.

  • Core Issue: OBC candidates allege that they are being treated as General category applicants, thereby denying them the reservation benefits they are entitled to.
  • Significant Cases: Case numbers WPA 28417 and WPA 2843/2025 specifically highlight these legal complexities.

Disputes Over Prior Teaching Experience Marks

A majority of the cases listed today, specifically from serial numbers 34 to 64, pertain to claims regarding ‘Prior Teaching Experience’ marks. While 10 marks are supposed to be allocated for experience, many candidates claim they have been deprived of this benefit.

  • Root Cause: Candidates allege that the application form lacked a specific column or option to input experience details. Consequently, those with teaching experience in vocational courses, private schools, or central government schools could not declare it.
  • Petitioners: Several candidates, including Pushpita Chandra, Tapas Mondal, and Kaushik Roy, have moved the court claiming these 10 marks.

Legal Battle Over Question Errors

There is also a strong possibility of intense hearings today regarding allegations of erroneous questions in the SLST 2025 examination. It is claimed that many deserving candidates fell off the merit list due to errors in subjects like Geography, English, Bengali, and History.

  • Candidates like Purnima Sarkar and Rabia Khatun have alleged that they were excluded from the ranking, verification, or interview processes due to these question errors.
  • Prominent lawyers, including Advocate Ali Hossain Alamgir, are fighting these cases on behalf of the candidates.

Court Proceedings and Path Ahead

While Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya’s bench heard some urgent matters during the winter break, full-fledged hearings have resumed today in Justice Amrita Sinha’s bench. Thousands of job aspirants are looking towards the court for a verdict that resolves the issues caused by alleged negligence at various stages of the SSC process. Legal experts suggest that candidates affected by category issues, experience marks, or question errors should seek legal advice and bring their grievances to the court’s attention promptly.

The future of many candidates depends on the outcome of today’s marathon hearings. Stay tuned to our portal for further updates.
