Final Voter List WB: West Bengal Final Voter List Published Over 63 Lakh Names Deleted
Final Voter List WB: On Saturday, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, officially released the state’s final voter list. The release highlighted significant updates, revealing that while many new voters have been added, a substantial number of names have also been removed following a rigorous verification process. The status of names under ‘Adjudication’ has particularly drawn attention.
Current Voter Statistics and Deletions
According to the State Election Commission, following the Special Summary Revision (SIR), the total number of voters in West Bengal now stands at 7,04,59,284. However, a staggering figure has emerged regarding deletions. A total of 63,66,952 names have been removed from the electoral roll. This figure includes approximately 58 lakh names previously identified as dead, shifted, or fake, along with an additional 5,46,053 names declared ineligible after the recent SIR hearing phase.
Understanding the ‘Adjudication’ Status
Apart from the confirmed list, the Commission noted that over 60 lakh names (specifically 60,06,675) are currently marked as ‘Adjudication’ or pending judicial review. These names appear in the list with a specific tag indicating their pending status.
Sources from the CEO’s office clarified that a team of judicial officers, appointed by the Calcutta High Court, is currently verifying the documents associated with these names. Once the verification is complete, those found eligible will be added to the main list through supplementary updates in phases. CEO Manoj Kumar Agarwal assured that efforts are being made to expedite this verification process.
What to Do If Your Name Is Marked ‘Deleted’?
There are instances where genuine voters might find their names erroneously removed from the list. If you find your status showing ‘Deleted’ in the final list, the Commission has provided a remedy.
In such cases, citizens can re-apply by submitting Form 6. Upon submission, the authorities will re-verify the documents. If the applicant is found to be a valid voter, their name will be reinstated in the voter list. The Election Commission emphasizes that these steps are being taken to ensure a transparent and error-free electoral roll.
