Aadhaar Card Update: New Rules to Add Father or Husband Name in Aadhaar Card Online
Aadhaar Card Update: In today’s digital era, the Aadhaar card serves as an indispensable identity document for citizens across India. However, a common problem frequently arises where the father’s or husband’s name goes missing from the downloaded Aadhaar card. Many citizens face this issue, especially after linking a new mobile number. Having the ‘Care Of’ (C/O) or guardian’s name accurately mentioned is critical for obtaining a driving license or processing other government documents. While local Panchayat certificates were previously used to resolve this, the process has now become cumbersome. To ease this burden, an entirely online method is now available to add these crucial details from the comfort of your home.
Crucial Prerequisites Before Applying
Before initiating this online modification process, applicants must be aware of certain vital conditions. Notably, this process not only updates the name but also alters your residential address.
- Mobile Number Linkage: Both the applicant and the individual whose name is being added (father or husband) must have active mobile numbers linked to their respective Aadhaar cards.
- Address Synchronization: By using this method, your current address will automatically be updated to match the Head of Family’s (HoF) address.
- Data Accuracy: Be cautious, as any existing errors in the HoF’s Aadhaar card will automatically reflect on yours.
Step-by-Step Online Modification Process
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) facilitates this correction through a Head of Family-based mechanism.
- Applicant Login: First, visit the myAadhaar portal and log in using an OTP. Navigate to the ‘Address Update’ section and select the ‘Head of Family (HoF) based Address Update’ option.
- Providing HoF Details: Enter the Aadhaar number of your father or husband and select the exact relationship from the drop-down menu. No extra external documents are required here; simply accept the auto-generated self-declaration.
- Fee Payment: The service currently costs Rs. 75 (increased from the previous Rs. 50). Pay this fee via standard online gateways and safely note down the Service Request Number (SRN) provided in the acknowledgment receipt.
- Final Approval: The father or husband must then log in to the portal using their own Aadhaar details. By navigating to the ‘My Head of Family Request’ tab at the bottom of the dashboard, they need to enter the SRN and hit ‘Accept’ to finalize the procedure.
Key Limitations and Turnaround Time
- Processing Turnaround: Once the final approval is granted, the Aadhaar details are typically updated within 30 days.
- In Case of Deceased HoF: If the father or husband has passed away, this online procedure cannot be utilized. In such instances, the applicant must physically visit the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra with the appropriate supporting documents.
