West Bengal Election: West Bengal Election: Election Commission Announces Strict New Voting Rules

West Bengal Election: The Election Commission has implemented several crucial decisions to ensure a peaceful and smooth process for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The primary objective behind these measures is to make the voting experience easier, safer, and more secure for the general public. Before participating in this democratic festival starting in April, it is highly important for every voter to be aware of these newly introduced guidelines.

Assembly Election Schedule at a Glance

Voting will be conducted across all 294 assembly seats in the state. According to the data released by the Election Commission, the entire election has been divided into two separate phases. Polling will take place across the state on the 23rd and 29th of April. Subsequently, the final results of the election will be officially declared on the 4th of May.

Multiple Steps for Public Convenience

Special attention is being paid to ensure that ordinary citizens do not face any difficulties while casting their votes. Four different types of informational posters will be displayed outside every polling station. These posters will contain clear details ranging from the names, photographs, and symbols of the candidates to the exact rules and regulations of voting. For those who do not possess an electoral photo identity card, a clear list of valid alternative identification documents will also be provided.

Additionally, a dedicated voter assistance booth will be set up under the supervision of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) within the premises. Special priority arrangements and shaded resting areas are being organized for elderly and differently-abled citizens. The commission is also strictly ensuring basic infrastructure like clean drinking water, proper lighting, and toilet facilities at every centre.

Strict Rules Regarding Mobile Phones at Polling Stations

To maintain the absolute secrecy of the ballot and ensure overall security, strict restrictions have been imposed on smartphone usage. Mobile phones are completely prohibited within a 100-meter radius of the polling station. Voters must keep their devices switched off or on silent mode. There is absolutely no permission to carry a phone inside the voting compartment. Voters will be required to deposit their mobile phones at a designated spot before casting their vote and can collect them back once the voting process is successfully completed.
