32000 Teacher Case: What Did the Court Order in the High Court Order Copy?

32000 Teacher Case: The Calcutta High Court has provided a significant update regarding the case of the cancellation of jobs for 32,000 primary teachers. The hearing for this case is ongoing in the division bench of Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty, and the next hearing date has been set for August 21, 2025. In this post, we will discuss in detail the current situation of the case, the arguments of the lawyers from various parties, and the next steps.

Background of the Case

This case is related to the cancellation of jobs for 32,000 untrained primary teachers appointed in 2017, who were recruited based on the 2014 TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) examination. The case was heard in Court No. 11 of the Calcutta High Court, and another 102 applications have been attached to it, among which “West Bengal Board of Primary Education vs. Priyanka Naskar” is a notable one.

Arguments of the Lawyers

Several lawyers have presented arguments on behalf of the affected teachers. Their main arguments are highlighted below:

  • Anindya Lahiri: He argued for separating the 2014 TET and the 2017 recruitment process. According to him, the allegations of corruption in the TET examination have no connection with the recruitment process. He also added that the issue with the OMR sheets is solely related to the 2014 TET, which does not affect the 2016 recruitment process.
  • Joydeep Majumdar: He stated that there is no proof of corruption in the recruitment process and that some media outlets are exaggerating the news. He also mentioned that no candidate from the Jalpaiguri district was called for the aptitude test or interview.
  • Siddhartha Banerjee: Representing para-teachers and new teachers, he said that even if they score zero in the aptitude test and interview, the para-teachers will get appointed due to their 10% reservation.
  • Chittaranjan Chakraborty: He requested to separate his clients from the group of 32,000, as their academic scores are better and they are eligible for appointment even with low marks in the aptitude test and interview.

Next Hearing and Future

The next hearing of the case is scheduled to be held on August 21, 2025, at 2 PM in the division bench of the Calcutta High Court. In the next hearing, the lawyers of the aggrieved job candidates will present their arguments. It is expected that the real irregularities and problems in the recruitment process will become clear after this hearing. The verdict of this case will determine the future of thousands of teachers in West Bengal.
