32000 Teachers Case: The fate of 32,000 untrained primary teachers is set to be decided today, September 2, 2025, as the Calcutta High Court’s Division Bench hears the job cancellation case. This case (MAT No. 873 of 2023) will determine the future of thousands of teachers in the state, and all eyes are on the court.

Current Status of the Case

This crucial case will be heard in Court No. 11 of the Calcutta High Court by a Division Bench comprising Hon’ble Justice Tapanbrata Chakraborty and Justice Ritabrata Kumar Mitra. The case has been filed by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, with Priyanka Noskar as the respondent.

Initially, over 100 “CAN” files were associated with this case, which has now increased to 109. Most of these files are still pending acceptance. This large number of applications proves how complex the case is and how many lives are involved.

Hearing Schedule and Legal Arguments

The hearing is scheduled to begin today after 2:00 PM, following the lunch break. The case is listed at serial number 53 in the cause list of Court No. 11. Several other MAT numbers, from 54 to 96, are also connected and will be heard together.

In terms of legal arguments, the submissions from the lawyers of the affected candidates have already been completed. The arguments from the main writ petitioners have begun, with advocate Tarun Jyoti having concluded his submissions. Today, Kumar Jyoti will present his arguments. Following this, Soumya Majumder will present arguments on behalf of the deprived job seekers, and if time permits, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya will also make his submissions.

The verdict of this case will have a major impact on the primary education system of the state. The future of the teachers who lost their jobs largely depends on today’s hearing. Both the petitioners and the respondents are prepared to present their arguments.
