Aadhaar Update: No Document Needed to Add Husband or Father Name in Aadhaar Card Know the Easy New Process

Aadhaar Update: Aadhaar card is one of the most critical identity documents for Indian citizens. Especially for women after marriage, changing the father’s name to the husband’s name or updating the address becomes an essential task. Until now, common people faced various difficulties while doing this, primarily due to the lack of appropriate supporting documents. However, UIDAI has brought good news for Aadhaar users. There has been a radical change in the rules for updating ‘Care Of’ or guardian names, which will significantly reduce the harassment faced by the public.

Benefit of Updating Without Documents

Previously, to update the address or guardian’s name based on ‘Head of Family’ (HoF) details, one had to upload multiple supporting documents. If one could not provide a marriage certificate, ration card, or any other government proof, the application would get rejected. But under the new rules, this complexity has been completely removed. Now, this change is possible solely based on the consent of the Head of Family (father or husband). For this, the applicant does not need to upload any extra proof documents; a simple ‘Self Declaration’ is sufficient.

Complete Application Process

This task can be completed online from the comfort of your home. Follow the steps below carefully:

  1. Access the Official Portal: First, the applicant needs to visit the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal and log in using their Aadhaar number. Remember, linking a mobile number with Aadhaar is mandatory for logging in.
  2. Select Option: After logging in, choose the ‘Address Update’ option from the dashboard. Then, click on the ‘Head of Family (HoF) Based Address Update’ option from the available choices.
  3. Provide Guardian Details: Enter the Aadhaar number of the person you want to add as a guardian (father or husband) in the specific field. Then, select your relationship with them (e.g., Father, Husband) from the dropdown menu.
  4. Fee Payment: You will have to pay a processing fee of ₹75 for this service. Once the payment is successful, you will receive an SRN (Service Request Number). Note this down carefully or save it.

Actions Required for Final Approval

Many believe that the job is done once the application is submitted, but the most crucial step of this method is the approval by the Head of Family. Without this, the entire process will be cancelled.

  • The person you have mentioned as HoF (father or husband) must log in to their own Aadhaar portal.
  • After logging in, they need to go to the option named ‘My Head of Family Request’.
  • The notification of your application will be visible there. Verifying with your SRN number, they must click the ‘Accept’ button to give their consent.

Important Warnings

It is essential to keep in mind some technical aspects of this simplified method, otherwise, you might face problems in the future:

  • Exact Copy of Data: The address spelling or surname present on the card of the person you are using as a reference will be printed exactly on your card. Therefore, if there is any error in their data, that error will also reflect on your card.
  • Refund Rule: Once the payment is made, if the Head of Family cancels the request or does not accept it within the time limit, the processing fee of ₹75 will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Timeline: Usually, the new Aadhaar card is generated within 30 days of the Head of Family giving their consent.

As a result of this new initiative, people from both rural and urban areas will benefit, as it is now possible to update relationships and addresses without the hassle of documents.
