Application Process for West Bengal OBC Certificate Has Started at the BDO Office

OBC Certificate Application: The application process for OBC certificates has resumed at the BDO office. The Backward Classes Welfare Department of West Bengal is conducting this process. In today’s post, we will discuss how you can apply for the renewal of an old certificate or for a new certificate.
Application Procedure
The application process consists of both online and offline steps. The details are discussed below:
- Online Application: To apply, you first need to visit the “Caste Certificate” portal of the West Bengal government.
- Provide Old Certificate Number: While applying, you need to enter your old OBC certificate number in the designated field. This will automatically fetch your previous information into the portal.
- Print Application and Collect Documents: After completing the online application, print the application form. Along with it, collect all necessary documents, such as your identity proof (Aadhaar card or voter card) and a copy of your old OBC certificate.
- Submission at the BDO Office: Take the printed application form and all the documents to the Backward Classes Welfare (BCW) section of your nearest BDO office.
- Application Processing: The documents you submit will be forwarded from the BCW section through the BDO’s login to the SDO’s login.
- Approval and Certificate Issuance: The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) is the authority in charge of issuing caste certificates. After verifying your application and documents, if the SDO approves it, you will receive a new certificate with a digital signature. This new certificate will mention both your old and new certificate numbers.
Special Note
For those whose caste was included in the OBC list after 2010 (belonging to the 74 classes previously delisted by the High Court), the renewal process is the same. You need to apply online, provide the old certificate details, and submit the application form with KYC and caste proof to the BCW section at the BDO office. The application will then be verified by the BDO and SDO before being re-issued with a digital signature. It is essential to verify whether your caste falls under the OBC-A or OBC-B category according to the recent list.
