Banglar Bari Scheme Fund Release Date Update and New Beneficiary List 2026

Banglar Bari Scheme: The ‘Banglar Bari’ or rural housing scheme is one of the flagship initiatives of the West Bengal state government, aimed at providing permanent shelter to the needy in rural and semi-urban areas. Beneficiaries have been waiting for a long time to receive the funds to build their dream homes. Although earlier reports suggested that the funds would be credited to bank accounts in the first week of January, recent updates indicate a slight change in the schedule. According to sources within the state administration, there is a very positive reason behind this delay.

The government’s decision aims to benefit a larger section of the population. Below is a detailed analysis of why the payment is delayed, who is included in the new list, and when exactly the money is expected to hit bank accounts.

Major Revision in List: Increase in Beneficiaries

The primary reason for the delay in the fund release process is the significant increase in the number of beneficiaries. Initially, the state government had planned to provide housing funds to a total of 16.05 lakh families. However, it was later identified that many more people are homeless or living in dilapidated houses and are rightful claimants of this scheme.

Specifically, a large number of people who had reached out to the state government via the ‘Sorasori Mukhyomantri’ (Direct to Chief Minister) helpline to report their grievances have been included. After administrative verification, approximately 4 lakh new beneficiaries from these helpline applicants have been added to the main list. Consequently, a total of about 20.05 lakh people are now set to receive benefits under this scheme.

Administrative Action and Finance Department Approval

The sudden addition of 4 lakh beneficiaries naturally necessitated an additional budget allocation. The delay is primarily due to the time required for the approval of these extra funds. The Panchayat Department has already sent the file for the additional funds to the State Finance Department.

Once the Finance Department gives the green signal, the process of releasing the money will commence. The administration wants to ensure that these new 4 lakh people receive their first installment simultaneously with the existing 16 lakh beneficiaries, which is why this temporary pause has been taken.

Breakdown of Amount and Installments

For the convenience of the beneficiaries, the breakdown of the grant amount and the installment structure is presented in the table below:

DescriptionAmount
Total Grant₹1,20,000
First Installment₹60,000
Second Installment₹60,000

This entire amount will be sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). There is no scope for any middlemen to handle the money.

When Will the First Installment Be Released?

The most critical question is, when will the money be available? Based on the current situation and the pace of administrative work, it is understood that the funds might be released in the fourth week or towards the end of January.

According to the tentative plan, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself will likely transfer the first installment of ₹60,000 to the accounts of approximately 20.05 lakh people simultaneously by pressing a button virtually from a meeting or the state secretariat (Nabanna). Along with this, house approval certificates may also be handed over to the beneficiaries.

Is There Still a Chance to Apply?

Those who have not yet been able to get their names on this list need not be disappointed. The state government has kept the doors open for the common people. If you believe you are eligible for this scheme, you can take the following steps:

  • Sorasori Mukhyomantri Helpline: You can call this number and state your need for a house.
  • Survey and Verification: After your grievance is registered, government officials will come to physically survey or investigate the condition of your current residence.
  • Inclusion: If the investigation deems you eligible, there is a strong possibility that your name will be added to the list in the next phase.

In summary, although the money did not arrive in early January, the state government is poised to deliver this service on a much larger scale to a greater number of people by the end of the month.
