Big News for West Bengal’s College Aspirants: Centralised Online Admission Portal Launched for 2025-26!

The Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, has announced a significant update for the college admission process. For the 2025-26 academic session, a Centralised Online Admission system has been introduced to provide a single-window gateway for students seeking admission to undergraduate courses. This new portal will streamline the application process for 460 Government and Government-aided General Degree Colleges and Higher Education Institutions across the state. The primary goal is to make admissions simpler, more transparent, and student-friendly.

Here’s everything you need to know about this new notification.

Key Features of the Centralised Online Admission:

  • Single Portal: Students no longer need to fill out separate forms for different colleges. They can apply to multiple colleges and courses through this single platform.
  • Application Websites: Applications can be submitted online through https://banglaruchchashiksha.wb.gov.in or https://wbsche.wb.gov.in by clicking the “Centralised Admission” button, or directly at https://wbcap.in/.
  • No Application Fee: There is no fee for submitting an application.
  • Wide Range of Choices: An applicant can apply for a maximum of 25 programmes/courses across one or multiple institutions and can create a Preference List accordingly.
  • Bangla Sahayata Kendras (BSK): Students can get assistance with filling out their application forms free of cost at the ‘Bangla Sahayata Kendras’. There are also no charges for scanning or uploading documents through BSKs.

Who Can Apply?

Any Indian student who has qualified the (10+2) or an equivalent examination from any recognized Board or Council within the country is eligible to apply for admission to undergraduate courses.

Which Institutions Are Excluded?

Several universities and specific courses are excluded from this centralised system. These include:

  • Presidency University, Jadavpur University
  • Autonomous Colleges, Minority Educational Institutes/Colleges
  • Training Colleges, Law Colleges/Universities
  • Courses like Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Crafts, Dance, and Music
  • Colleges offering Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medical Courses
  • Self-financing/Private Colleges

How Will the Admission Process Work?

  1. Merit-Based: The online admission process will be conducted strictly on the basis of merit.
  2. No Physical Verification Initially: Prospective students will not be called for counselling or physical verification of documents during the admission process. Physical presence is not required at the institutions at this stage.
  3. Online Fee Payment: Admission fees must be paid only through the online portal.
  4. Notifications: Eligible applicants will be notified directly via SMS and E-mail at each step. They can also view their status on their personal dashboard.
