BLO Duty West Bengal: The Election Commission has issued new guidelines regarding Booth Level Officer (BLO) duty for teachers under the West Bengal School Education Department and Higher Education Department. This directive has been introduced to eliminate various confusions among teachers, clearly specifying who is eligible for this duty and who is not. Let’s delve into the important aspects of this new guideline in detail.
Key Highlights of the New Guideline
In the new notification released by the Election Commission, it has been announced that all teachers in government schools will now have to participate in BLO duty. However, certain conditions have been applied, which had raised questions among many. This guideline has put an end to all such queries.
Who is Eligible for BLO Duty?
According to the Election Commission’s directive, the following teachers will be considered eligible for BLO duty:
- Government School Teachers: All teachers in primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools under the School Education Department and Higher Education Department of the Government of West Bengal.
- Regular Salary: Teachers who receive a regular monthly salary, which includes Dearness Allowance (DA).
- Pensionable Job: The teacher’s job must be pensionable.
If these conditions are met, it is mandatory for the teachers to perform BLO duty.
Who is Not Eligible for BLO Duty?
In some cases, teachers have been exempted from BLO duty. The following teachers are not eligible for this duty:
- Political Affiliation: Teachers who have a direct connection with any political party or carry a political identity are excluded from this duty.
- Retired Teachers: Retired teachers will also not be considered for BLO duty.
- Para-teachers: Para-teachers or other categories of teachers who do not receive Dearness Allowance (DA) are not included under this directive.
Purpose and Impact of the Guideline
The main objective of introducing this new guideline is to eliminate all ambiguities related to BLO duty and create a transparent process. This will now make it easier to select eligible teachers and will help in conducting the election process smoothly. This is also a crucial directive for teachers, as it allows them to be clearly aware of their responsibilities and eligibility. This step will enable the Election Commission to manage booth-level operations seamlessly and bring transparency to the electoral process.
