Calcutta High Court: Major Reshuffle in Benches of Calcutta High Court, Know about 32000 Teacher Case

Calcutta High Court: A major reshuffle has been announced at the Calcutta High Court, which will be effective from July 18, 2025. A notification has been issued, leading to several changes in the benches of judges for hearing various important cases. In this report, we will highlight the key aspects of this reshuffle.

New Notification and Its Impact

This new notification was issued by the Calcutta High Court on July 17, 2025. The main objective of this notification is to reallocate the responsibilities of cases among the judges to make the judicial process more transparent and faster.

Changes in the Division Bench

A significant change has been observed in the Division Bench. Previously, Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Amrita Sinha used to hear the Group 2 matters. According to the new notification, from now on, the Division Bench for Group 2 education-related matters will consist of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Apurba Sinha Roy. This change has sparked new discussions about the future of education-related cases.

Changes in the Single Bench

There has also been a major change in the Single Bench. Until now, Justice Sougata Bhattacharya used to hear the Group 2 matters. From now on, Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj will be in charge of hearing primary education-related cases and other education-related matters in the Single Bench. It is believed that this change may bring a new pace to the resolution of primary education-related cases.

The 32,000 Job Cancellation Case

The most important point is that there has been no change in the 32,000 job cancellation case. This case will remain with Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty’s bench. This case was specially assigned to his bench by the Chief Justice and will remain there until a resolution is reached. However, if the judge himself decides to step down from this case, the situation could be different.

It is expected that this reshuffle will bring a new direction to the judicial process of the Calcutta High Court. Discussions have started in various circles about this change, and everyone is looking forward to the coming days when these new benches will start their work.
