DA Case Update: New Turn on the Final Day, State Government Approaches Supreme Court Again

DA Case Update: The wait for the dearness allowance (DA) for West Bengal government employees seems to be far from over. Although the hearing in the Supreme Court concluded on September 8th, a new move by the state government has created a stir. Speculation has once again begun among state government employees regarding the case. In this report, we will discuss the latest situation of the DA case and the possible reasons behind the state government’s new step in detail.

Supreme Court’s Directive and the Current Situation

The hearing for the DA case in the Supreme Court concluded on September 8. The honorable justices had given the state government two weeks to submit any new arguments in writing. That deadline ends today, September 22nd. On the other hand, the employee organizations were given one week to respond to the state’s submission. However, on the very last day of the deadline, the state government has taken an unexpected step.

The State’s New Move

Yesterday, Sunday, September 21st, at 9:16 PM, the state’s Advocate on Record, Mr. Kunal Mimani, sent an email to the lawyers of the employee organizations. The email stated that the state government intends to mention the DA case again today, September 22nd, at 10:30 AM in Court No. 12 before the bench of Honorable Justice Sanjay Karol. This email was sent to the Advocates on Record for the Sarkari Karmachari Parishad, the Confederation of State Government Employees, and the Unity Forum, requesting their presence.

Why This New Step?

This sudden move by the state government has sparked intense speculation among employees. Legal experts are considering various possibilities:

  • Request for an extension: The state government might be seeking more time to submit its written arguments.
  • Addition of new information: It is also possible that the state government wants to present new information or arguments before the court.
  • Other legal strategies: This could also be a legal tactic by the state government to try and change the course of the case.

However, the real intention will only become clear after the matter is mentioned in court today. Many believe that this move by the state government could further delay the resolution of the DA case. For now, all eyes are on the Supreme Court today. We will keep you informed as soon as we receive further updates.
