When is the DA Case Verdict in Supreme Court? Will Good News Come Before Winter Vacation? Know Latest Update
DA Case Verdict: The excitement and anxiety surrounding the long-awaited verdict on the Dearness Allowance (DA) case for West Bengal government employees are reaching a fever pitch. Speculation is rife among employees about when the final outcome of this case, pending in the Supreme Court, will be delivered. Malay Mukherjee, on behalf of the Confederation of State Government Employees, recently shed light on the current situation, painting a picture of reality that also leaves room for some uncertainty.
Current Situation in Supreme Court and Cause List Update
According to the latest information available until 8:30 PM on December 17, no cause list for the Special Bench of the Supreme Court has been published yet. Consequently, significant uncertainty remains regarding whether the DA case verdict will be announced today, December 18, or tomorrow, December 19. Although there are strong rumors circulating within various employee circles, no official confirmation has been received from the court as of yet. Until an update appears on the Supreme Court’s official website, nothing can be stated with certainty.
Holiday Calendar and the Future of the Verdict
If the verdict is not published by Friday, December 19, the chances of it being released this year are virtually non-existent. This is because the Supreme Court will proceed on its long winter vacation immediately after. The schedule below clarifies the situation:
| Date | Details |
|---|---|
| December 20 & 21 | Saturday & Sunday (Court Closed) |
| December 22 to January 2 | Supreme Court Winter Vacation |
| January 3 & 4 | Saturday & Sunday (Court Closed) |
| January 5 | Supreme Court Reopens |
According to some legal experts, if the judgment is not delivered within this week, the honorable judges may complete the task of writing the judgment during the winter break. In that scenario, the verdict could be announced on any day after the court reopens in January 2025.

The final hearing of this case concluded on September 8. As per legal precedents in tribunals or higher courts, reserved judgments are typically published within 1 month and 12 days or 1 month and 17 days. Based on this calculation, government employees had hoped for a verdict by late November or early December. The delay has naturally increased frustration.
Looking at the long journey of the case, although it appeared on the hearing list multiple times between November 2022 and 2024, proper hearings were often not possible. On May 16, the bench led by Justice Sanjay Karol directed the state government to clear a portion of the DA arrears within six weeks. Subsequently, after a marathon hearing, the case reached its final stage before the bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice P.K. Mishra.
Currently, lakhs of government employees are looking towards December 19 with bated breath, although the hope is slim. The Confederation has stated that they will inform employees and pensioners as soon as any concrete news is received. For now, everyone must keep an eye on the Supreme Court’s website for official updates.
