HS Exam Leave: WBCHSE Leave Rules For Teachers During Higher Secondary Examination 2026

HS Exam Leave: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has issued a stringent set of guidelines regarding leave applications for teaching and non-teaching staff during the upcoming Higher Secondary Examinations 2026. In a notification issued by Council President Prof. (Dr.) Chiranjib Bhatta (Memo No: L/PR/029/2026), Heads of Institutions have been advised to exercise strict control over sanctioning leave from February 12, 2026, to February 27, 2026.

General Ban on Leave During Exams

The Council has explicitly advised all Heads of Institutions (HOIs) under its purview not to grant any kind of leave to teaching and non-teaching staff during the examination period. This period covers the Semester IV exams, Supplementary Exam of Semester III, and the Old Yearly/Annual System exams. The primary objective is to ensure the smooth conduct and sanctity of the examination process.

Exceptions for Medical and Maternity Cases

While the general rule is strict, the Council acknowledges unforeseen emergencies. In cases of extreme medical urgency (such as hospitalization or surgical procedures) or maternity leave, staff members can avail of leave. However, the HOI cannot grant this directly; the application must be submitted through the proper channel to the concerned Regional Offices of the Council for approval.

Provisions for Parents of Examinees

Special considerations have been made for staff members whose children (wards) are appearing for Board Examinations (Class X & XII):

  • Leave for Wards’ Exams: Teachers or non-teaching staff affiliated with WBCHSE schools can apply for leave if their ward is an examinee. This application must include relevant documents and be sent to the Regional Offices.
  • Govt. Service Couples: In scenarios where both parents are employed in Government or Semi-Government services, only one parent is permitted to avail of leave during the examination period. An undertaking declaring this must be submitted along with the leave application.

Conflict of Interest Guidelines

To maintain the highest standards of integrity, the Council has laid down specific rules for staff whose wards are appearing for the HS Examination at their own workplace (if the school is a selected Center or Venue):

  • Such teachers or staff members are strictly prohibited from performing any examination-related duties.
  • Furthermore, they are required to keep themselves isolated or away from the examination area during exam hours to ensure the sanctity of the process.

The Council has marked this notification as extremely urgent and has requested cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a hassle-free examination season in 2026.
