WB Higher Secondary Semester Exam 2025 New Rules For Answer Sheet And Question Pattern Issued

HS Semester Exam: A significant chapter is set to unfold for students under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Starting February 12, approximately 7,10,811 students will appear for one of the most crucial examinations of their school life. However, this year brings substantial changes to the examination format and regulations. Moving away from the traditional annual system, the introduction of the semester system mandates strict adherence to new guidelines; failure to comply could even lead to the cancellation of the candidature.

Semester System and Descriptive Answers

With the implementation of the semester system from the 2025 academic year, the structure of the Higher Secondary examination has evolved. While the third semester focused on Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), the upcoming fourth semester requires students to write descriptive or explanatory answers. The examination is scheduled from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. To allow students ample time to read, question papers will be distributed 10 minutes prior, precisely at 9:50 AM. Hence, reaching the exam center well in advance is critical for all examinees.

Strict Guidelines on Answer Sheets

A major change has been introduced regarding the answer scripts for this semester. According to the Council’s directive, students appearing for the fourth semester will not be allowed to take any ‘additional paper’ or loose sheets. All answers must be completed within the provided answer booklet. Therefore, students are strongly advised to avoid writing unnecessarily lengthy answers. Responses should be concise, informative, and strictly within the allotted space.

Banned Items and Security Measures

To maintain the integrity of the examination, the Council has enforced stringent security measures. Students must strictly observe the following prohibitions:

  • Electronic Gadgets Ban: Entry with mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, or any other electronic devices into the examination hall is strictly prohibited.
  • Disciplinary Action: If any student is found in possession of such banned items or is caught using unfair means, their examination is liable to be cancelled immediately.

Question Choice Advantage

Amidst the strict regulations, there is a silver lining regarding the question pattern. Students will enjoy a significant advantage in choosing questions. The format allows examinees to select from double the number of questions required. For instance, out of four given questions, a student will need to answer any two of their choice. This flexibility is expected to reduce stress and help students perform better.
