Lakshmir Bhandar Update: WB Budget 2026 Lakshmir Bhandar Allowance Increased by Rs 500 Effective February

Lakshmir Bhandar Update: The “Lakshmir Bhandar” scheme, a cornerstone of West Bengal’s social welfare initiatives, has received a massive boost in the latest state budget. Ahead of the crucial 2026 Assembly Elections, the state government has prioritized women’s financial empowerment by announcing a significant hike in the monthly financial assistance provided under this flagship program.

Major Budget Announcement: ₹500 Hike Across All Categories

During the presentation of the interim budget (Vote on Account) on February 5, 2026, State Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya unveiled this gift for the women of Bengal. To combat inflation and provide better economic stability, the government has implemented a uniform increase of ₹500 per month for all beneficiaries. The administration has confirmed that this revised payment structure will come into effect starting February 2026, with funds continuing to be transferred directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Revised Monthly Assistance Structure

With this new budgetary allocation, the monthly inflow for beneficiaries has increased substantially. The updated payment tiers are as follows:

  • General & OBC Categories: The monthly allowance has been raised from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500. This amounts to an annual benefit of ₹18,000.
  • SC & ST Communities: Beneficiaries in this category will now receive ₹1,700 per month, up from the previous ₹1,200. This totals ₹20,400 annually.

Eligibility Criteria & Rules

While the financial benefits have increased, the core objective remains to support the female heads of families. The eligibility norms are as follows:

  • Residency & Age: The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal aged between 25 and 60 years.
  • Employment Status: Women who are permanent government employees or receive a regular government pension are not eligible for this scheme.
  • Mandatory Requirement: Enrollment under the “Swasthya Sathi” scheme is a prerequisite for receiving Lakshmir Bhandar benefits.

Essential Documents for Application

To apply for the scheme or update existing records, beneficiaries must ensure they possess the following documents:

  1. Swasthya Sathi Card
  2. Aadhaar Card
  3. Bank Account Passbook (with clear IFSC & MICR codes)
  4. SC/ST Certificate (if applicable)
  5. Recent Passport-sized Photograph

This strategic move in the 2026-27 budget aims to reinforce the social security net for women, allowing them greater independence in managing household expenses, healthcare, and education.
