WBBSE Madhyamik 2026 Exam Duty Rules: Compensatory Leave and On-Duty Details for Teachers

Madhyamik Exam Duty: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has released a comprehensive set of guidelines for teachers and staff involved in the evaluation of Madhyamik 2026 answer scripts. Like every year, the Board has published the ‘On-Duty’ leave schedule for Examiners, Head Examiners, and Scrutineers. However, the most significant relief in this notification is the provision for Compensatory Leave.

Recognizing the tight deadlines for result publication, the Board has clarified that teachers who have to work on Sundays or government holidays for script evaluation-related tasks will be entitled to alternate leave. Here is a detailed breakdown of the rules and leave allocations.

Compensatory Leave for Sunday Work: A Major Relief

Often, there is confusion regarding leave entitlements for work done on public holidays. Clearing the air, WBBSE has stated that if any examiner or official is physically present on a Sunday or a holiday for tasks such as collecting or submitting answer scripts, they are eligible for ‘Compensatory Leave’.

  • Eligibility: This rule applies to Head Examiners, Examiners, and Scrutineers alike.
  • Validity: The earned compensatory leave must be availed by April 30, 2026.
  • Procedure & Restrictions: Teachers must apply to their Head of Institution with proof of attendance on the holiday. However, this leave cannot be taken during the Madhyamik or Higher Secondary examination days. It can only be availed on working days outside the exam schedule.

On-Duty Leave Structure for Head Examiners

Head Examiners bear the maximum responsibility in the evaluation process. Consequently, they have been allotted a maximum of 13 days of on-duty leave. The breakdown covers various administrative and academic tasks:

  • Administrative: 1 day for the Board Meeting and 1 day for distributing scripts to examiners.
  • Collection: 2 days allocated for receiving evaluated scripts from examiners in two installments.
  • Scrutiny & Submission: A maximum of 5 days is allotted for scrutiny work. Additionally, 2 days are provided for submitting marks to the Board office (in two installments) and another 2 days for online mark uploading.

Furthermore, special provisions include 1-2 days for mark verification before result publication (depending on the number of scripts) and 2 days for Post-Publication Review/Scrutiny (PPR/PPS) work.

Rules for Examiners and Scrutineers

For general Examiners, the leave depends on the volume of answer scripts and the logistics of collection and submission.

  • Collection: 1 day on-duty is granted for picking up the scripts.
  • Submission:
    • Teachers evaluating more than 75 scripts get 2 days for submission (Total 3 days).
    • Teachers with 75 or fewer scripts get 1 day for submission (Total 2 days).

For Scrutineers, the number of on-duty leave days is strictly calculated based on the number of scripts assigned to them. The slab system is presented below:

Number of ScriptsOn-Duty Leave
Up to 2001 Day
Up to 4002 Days
Up to 6003 Days
Up to 8004 Days
Above 8005 Days

Additionally, Scrutineers can claim 1 extra on-duty day if they assist the Head Examiner in the online uploading of marks. Other officials, such as District Conveners and Additional Venue Supervisors, will also receive on-duty leave for their respective meeting and examination days.

This structured approach aims to streamline the evaluation process while ensuring that teachers are fairly compensated with leave for their extra efforts during holidays.
