Mamata Banerjee’s Key Announcements on SSC New Recruitment and Measures for Current Employees

Mamata Banerjee: The state government is committed to adhering to the Supreme Court’s directives in the School Service Commission (SSC) case while also striving to protect the interests of currently employed eligible teachers. In a recent press conference, the Hon’ble Chief Minister clarified the government’s stance on this matter and announced several significant steps.

The Chief Minister stated that, as per the court’s order, the government must issue a notification by May 31st. A review petition has already been filed in the Supreme Court, although its hearing is pending due to the summer recess. The government is keeping both options open. If the review petition results in a favorable outcome for the state, action will be taken accordingly. Otherwise, following the court’s directive, an advertisement will be published on May 30th, with online applications accepted from June 16th to July 14th. The panel is expected to be published by November 15th, and counseling will commence from November 20th.

The government has emphatically stated that it has no intention of taking away the jobs of any deserving employee. As per the High Court’s order, advertisements will be issued for 24,203 vacant posts. In addition to this, the state government has created further additional posts, including 11,517 for classes 9-10, 6,912 for classes 11-12, 571 for Group C, and 1,000 for Group D. In total, the process for recruitment to 44,203 vacancies is set to begin.

For current employees whose jobs have been terminated, age relaxation will be provided in the new recruitment process, and special consideration based on experience will also be reviewed. Furthermore, those whose jobs have been canceled can also apply for Group C and Group D posts in the Education Department, as well as in three to four other departments. A separate notification regarding this will be issued later.

The Chief Minister requested the media not to distort their statements, as everything is being recorded for potential presentation to the Supreme Court. The government’s primary aim is to ensure justice is served with dignity and to make arrangements so that affected individuals can continue their work. She urged teachers and Group C/D staff to apply for the new process while also awaiting the outcome of the review petition, to secure their jobs. These steps are expected to open new horizons in the state’s education sector and create opportunities for eligible candidates.
