New Voter Card Application Process 2026: Know How to Fill Form 6 Online from Home

New Voter Card: With the upcoming electoral processes in 2026, creating a new Voter ID card has become completely digital and significantly more user-friendly. If you are 18 years of age or older and your name is not yet on the electoral roll, now is the perfect time to apply. You can complete the entire process from the comfort of your home using the Election Commission’s official portal. However, before starting the application, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the required documents and the correct procedure.

Document Preparation Before Application

Before initiating the online application, it is advisable to keep scanned copies of specific documents ready. This ensures a smooth form-filling experience without interruptions.

  • Photograph: A passport-sized color photograph (JPG format, maximum 2 MB).
  • Proof of Age: Any one of the following: Birth Certificate, Madhyamik Admit Card or Certificate, Passport, PAN Card, Driving License, or Aadhaar Card (PDF or JPG, maximum 2 MB).
  • Proof of Address: Aadhaar Card, Passport, Bank Passbook, or utility bills like Water/Electricity/Gas bills.
  • Note for Married Women: If applying for a voter card at the in-laws’ address after marriage and lacking address proof in your own name, a ‘Residential Certificate’ obtained from the Gram Panchayat can be uploaded as valid proof.

Portal Registration and Login Process

To apply, you first need to create an account on the Election Commission’s portal.

  1. Registration: Visit the voters.gov.in website and click on the ‘Sign Up’ option. Enter your mobile number and captcha code, then proceed by entering your name and surname. Complete the registration by verifying the OTP sent to your phone.
  2. Login: After registration, log in using your registered mobile number and password. From the dashboard, select the ‘Fill Form 6’ option under the ‘New Voter Registration’ section.

Key Steps for Filling Form 6

When filling out Form 6, avoid rushing and verify every piece of information carefully.

  • Personal and Aadhaar Details: First, select your State, District, and Assembly Constituency. Typing your name in English will automatically transliterate it into the local language (Bengali). If there are spelling errors, correct them using the on-screen keyboard. Enter your Aadhaar number in the designated field, or tick the checkbox if you do not possess one.
  • Family and Contact Information: Mention the name and relationship of one guardian (Father, Mother, or Husband). It is preferable to provide your own mobile number; however, if using a relative’s number, ensure you select the ‘Relative’ option.
  • Address and Declaration: Accurately enter your current or permanent address. In the ‘Declaration’ section, you must specify how long you have been residing at that address.

Submission and Next Steps

After filling out the form completely, click on ‘Preview and Submit’ to review all details one last time. Upon clicking the submit button, you will need to complete the e-Sign process via Aadhaar OTP verification.

Once the application is successfully submitted, you will receive a Reference Number. Keep this number safe, as you will need it to check the status of your card under the ‘Track Application Status’ option later. After submission, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of your area may contact you for document verification or call you for a hearing. Your voter card will be generated following successful verification.
