Ration Card: Millions of Ration Cards Are Going to Be Cancelled, Your Card May Be Cancelled If You Don’t Do This

Ration Card: The central and state governments have launched various welfare schemes for the common people of the country, among which the ration system is one of the most important. Through this system, crores of people in the country receive food grains every month at low prices or for free. However, a major update regarding ration cards has recently come to light, which if you don’t know, could lead to the cancellation of your ration card. The government has made eKYC for ration cards mandatory, and as a result of not completing this process, the ration cards of millions of people have already been cancelled.

Why was this eKYC made mandatory?

The main objective behind this government step is to bring transparency to the ration system and prevent corruption. Many dishonest individuals were creating fake ration cards to unfairly enjoy government benefits. To stop this kind of fraud and to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach the rightful beneficiaries, eKYC has been made mandatory. Through this, all cards that are fake or inactive can be easily identified and cancelled.

What will happen if eKYC is not done?

According to government guidelines, the cards of all ration card holders who do not complete the eKYC process within the specified deadline are first being deactivated and subsequently being permanently cancelled. As a result, they will no longer be able to collect food grains from the ration shop. This rule has already been implemented in various states across the country, and millions of cards have been cancelled. Therefore, if you have not yet completed your ration card’s eKYC, do so immediately.

How to do eKYC?

There are two methods for completing Ration Card eKYC: online and offline.

  • Online Method:
    • If you want to do eKYC from home, it is mandatory to have your mobile number linked with your Aadhaar card.
    • First, go to the official website of your state’s food department. Link: https://food.wb.gov.in/
    • There, choose the option to link Aadhaar with the ration card or to do eKYC.
    • Enter your ration card number and other required information.
    • An OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar number.
    • Your eKYC process will be completed once you submit this OTP on the website.
  • Offline Method:
    • Those who do not have a mobile number linked with their Aadhaar card need not worry.
    • You can complete the eKYC through a biometric method by visiting your nearest ration dealer.
    • Additionally, you can also complete this process by visiting a Jan Seva Kendra (CSC) or Common Service Center.

To keep your ration card active and to avoid being deprived of government benefits, complete the eKYC process immediately. For more information on this matter, you can contact your state’s food department website or your ration dealer.
