Review Petition for 26,000 SSC Job Cancellation Case Likely to be Heard in Open Court

SSC Job Cancellation: The case of the cancellation of 26,000 jobs of the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) has taken a new turn. The hearing of the review petition in this case is finally going to be held in the open court of the Supreme Court, which is a very important matter for the job aspirants and the state government. The hearing will be held in the bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, which will be instrumental in deciding the future of this case.

The Core Issue and Current Situation

This case will decide the fate of thousands of job aspirants in West Bengal. The diary number of the main review petition filed by the state government is 23194/2025 and the review petition number of the civil appeal is 1729/2025. A total of 172 review petitions have been linked in this case, which highlights the importance and complexity of this matter. Since the decision to cancel the jobs, the state government and the job aspirants have been fighting a legal battle, and this review petition is their last hope.

Open Court vs. Chamber Hearing: The Difference and Significance

Initially, there was a lot of speculation as to whether the hearing would be in a chamber or in an open court. In a chamber hearing, only the judges and the lawyers associated with the case are present and there is no oral hearing. On the other hand, in an open court hearing, all parties are present and have the opportunity to present their arguments, which ensures transparency.

A notification from the Supreme Court dated August 1, 2025, states that chamber matters listed between August 4 and August 8 may be taken up for “hearing on short notice.” This suggests that, although listed as a chamber hearing, it may take the form of an open court hearing, where there will be an opportunity to present oral arguments. Although the SSC case is not explicitly mentioned in the advance list, this notification has increased the possibility of a public hearing.

Looking Towards the Future

The hearing of this case will be held on August 5, 2025. This hearing will determine the future of the 26,000 job aspirants. If the hearing is held in open court, all parties will have a great opportunity to present their arguments and get justice. Both the state government and the job aspirants are hopeful that the Supreme Court will consider their application and give a positive verdict. All eyes are now on the Supreme Court, where the final decision of this historic case will be taken. We will bring you every update of this case.
