RTO Faceless Service: No More Running Around RTO Offices! 50 Services Including Driving License and Permits Now Available From Home, Get Details

RTO Faceless Service: The state’s Transport Department is set to take a groundbreaking step. To curb the menace of middlemen (dalals) and reduce the harassment faced by common people at RTO offices, a decision has been made to make 50 crucial services completely online or ‘Faceless’. As a result, people will no longer have to repeatedly visit the RTO office for tasks ranging from getting a learner’s license to renewing a permit. The entire process can now be completed digitally from the comfort of one’s home.

According to sources at Nabanna, this significant decision was taken at a meeting on October 14 between officials from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Transport Department. The primary objective of launching these online services is to free RTO offices from middlemen, reduce public footfall, and bring greater transparency to various vehicle-related services.

Which Services Will Be Available Online?

A total of 50 services have been included under the ‘Faceless Service’ initiative. Some of the key services are:

  • Applications related to Learner’s License and Driving License
  • Change of address in a Learner’s Driving License
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Issuance and renewal of Permits
  • Applications for various types of permits
  • Application and renewal of Conductor’s License

In a notification, State Transport Secretary Soumitra Mohan stated, “With the launch of the Aadhaar-based faceless authentication system, citizens will now be able to complete most motor vehicle-related services online. This will save them from making repeated visits to the RTO office.”

How Will This New System Work?

For years, the public has complained about having to run around for days for even minor tasks at the RTO, and that it’s nearly impossible to get work done without the help of middlemen. This new ‘faceless’ system is set to resolve precisely this issue.

Applicants will now be able to upload the necessary documents through the online Vahan and Sarathi portals. Following this, payments can be made digitally, and approvals will also be granted online. The entire process will be conducted through Aadhaar-based authentication, making the service more secure and transparent.

However, a word of caution has also been issued. If any discrepancy is found between the applicant’s Aadhaar data and the information in their license or vehicle registration, the application may be rejected. Furthermore, for critical tasks such as biometric changes or corrections to name/date of birth, the applicant might still need to visit the RTO office in person. The Transport Department has already instructed the NIC to promptly upgrade the Vahan and Sarathi portals to integrate these new services and to submit a report on the matter within three days.
