Schools in West Bengal Reopening on Monday, June 2nd After Summer Vacation

School Reopening: Putting an end to the extended summer vacation, all government and government-aided primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in West Bengal are set to reopen on Monday, June 2, 2025. According to a recent notification from the School Education Department, this decision will be effective across the state, including schools in the hill areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
This year, due to the severe heatwave, the summer vacation in schools across the state was advanced and commenced on April 30th. Initially, this holiday was scheduled until May 31st. Although there was some speculation that the vacation might be extended further, sources in the Education Department have confirmed that classes will resume from June 2nd. As June 1st is a Sunday, the effective reopening day for schools has been set for Monday.
The government notification states that teachers will need to arrange extra classes, if necessary, to compensate for any loss in studies due to the extended holidays. This news has brought relief to both teachers and students. After a long break, school campuses will once again buzz with the presence of students. Necessary instructions have already been issued to the respective authorities to ensure cleanliness and other preparations before the schools reopen.
Sources from the Education Department also informed that the West Bengal Board of Primary Education and the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education are aware of this decision. All district school inspectors have been requested to comply with this directive. Parents and students have been advised to contact their respective school authorities for specific school timings.
With the news of schools reopening after a long vacation, there is enthusiasm among students and a flurry of preparations among parents. It is hoped that teaching and learning will return to their normal rhythm, and students will be able to concentrate on their studies with renewed vigor.
