SIR West Bengal: Urgent West Bengal Voter List Revision Starts Today

SIR West Bengal: An urgent directive has been issued from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal. According to this directive, all District Election Officers of the state have been asked to start the process of tallying the voter list. This process will begin on September 12th and is targeted to be completed by September 20th. The purpose of this important step is to ensure the transparency and accuracy of the voter list.

Why is this voter list being tallied?

The main objective of this process is to compare the 2002 electoral roll with the final electoral roll of 2025. This will verify changes in voter information, such as name, address, or other details. This step will make it possible to correct errors in the voter list and ensure an accurate list is used in the upcoming elections.

How will the process work?

This voter list tallying process will be completed in several steps and will be the responsibility of the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Let’s take a look at the details of the process:

  • Information Verification: Each Booth Level Officer (BLO) will be provided with a hard copy of the 2002 electoral roll and the 2025 final roll with its two supplements. They will match the name of each voter with the 2002 and 2025 lists.
  • Parental Information: If a voter’s name is not found in the 2002 list, the information will be verified using their father’s or mother’s name.
  • Daily Reports: BLOs will have to submit their work report daily in a specific format (Annexure 1) to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO).
  • Online Updates: District Election Officers (DEOs) will update Annexure 2 online starting from September 12th.
  • Monitoring: The entire process will be closely monitored by BLO Supervisors, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and EROs.

Training Arrangements

To accomplish this important task correctly, emergency training has been arranged for the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The guidelines for this training will be issued very soon.

Under the Election Commission’s Observation

The Senior Deputy Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India will monitor the progress of this process through video conferences on September 18th and 19th. On September 20th, the Election Commission will review the overall progress of the entire process.

This task of voter list revision is an important chapter in the state’s electoral process. It will protect the identity of the voters and further increase the public’s trust in the electoral process. When the BLO from your area visits your home, please cooperate by providing them with the correct information.
