Special Benefits for SSC Sacked Teachers: 44,203 Posts with Age and Experience Relaxation

SSC Sacked Teachers: The West Bengal state government, adhering to the Supreme Court’s directives, has unveiled a new chapter in the recruitment of school teachers and non-teaching staff. Hon’ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at a press conference, detailed the intricacies of this recruitment process, emphasizing special provisions for teachers who lost their jobs, particularly concerning age and experience. In this initiative to fill a total of 44,203 vacancies, special attention has been given to safeguarding the interests of teachers who lost their employment in the 2016 process.
As per the Chief Minister’s announcement, teachers who lost their jobs will be granted age relaxation for participating in the re-recruitment process, in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. This comes as a significant relief, as many were concerned about the upper age limit. Furthermore, their extensive teaching experience will also be given special consideration. While they will have to appear for a written examination and interview as per School Service Commission (SSC) rules, their accumulated experience will provide them with weightage or an added advantage during panel preparation. The Chief Minister mentioned that their prior classroom experience would also be beneficial during the interview stage. Detailed rules regarding this weightage will soon be published by the SSC.
In this comprehensive recruitment drive, the notification is scheduled to be issued by May 30th. Interested candidates can apply online from June 16th to July 14th. The panel of successful candidates is planned to be published by November 15th, with counselling set to begin from November 20th. The state government aims to complete this process within November, provided no legal complications arise.
These 44,203 posts include the previously cancelled 24,203 positions as well as newly created posts by the government. Consequently, new job aspirants will also have the opportunity to participate in this examination. Initially, advertisements will be published for teacher recruitment for classes IX to XII, followed by recruitment for Group C and Group D posts.
The state government has also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court. If the verdict of this petition is favorable to the state, the possibility of an alternative recruitment method without an examination is not being ruled out. However, for now, all procedures are being implemented in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives. This step clearly demonstrates the government’s empathy towards the sacked teachers and its effort to honor their experience, which is expected to have a positive impact on the state’s education system.
