SSC Modification Application: New MA Filed in Supreme Court, New Twist in 26,000 Job Cancellation Case

SSC Modification Application: A new ‘Modification Application’ (MA) has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the cancellation of 26,000 SSC jobs, sparking new hope among job seekers. This new MA was filed on August 16, 2025, with diary number 45848. The case is titled “Chinmoy Mondal vs. State of West Bengal & Others.”

Key Points of the New MA

While many previous MAs and SLPs (Special Leave Petitions) have been dismissed, this new application specifically seeks clarification on Paragraph 49 of the Supreme Court’s order dated April 3, 2025. This paragraph highlights two crucial points:

  • Candidates with Disabilities: Candidates with disabilities who lost their jobs will have the opportunity to participate in the new recruitment process. They will be given age relaxation and other necessary concessions.
  • Other Candidates: Candidates who are “not specially tainted” (i.e., not involved in corruption) will also be eligible to participate in the new recruitment process with an age relaxation. This is a very important point as many candidates have crossed the age limit due to the nine-year gap between 2016 and 2025.

Why is this MA Important?

The main purpose of this MA is to obtain clear guidance from the court regarding the new recruitment process and age relaxation for filling the vacancies from 2016. The petitioner is Chinmoy Mondal, and the respondents include the State of West Bengal and the Secretary of the School Education Department.

Lawyers are optimistic that this time the court may provide a specific interpretation or directive instead of dismissing the application, which could be instrumental in determining the future of the job seekers. This legal step could create a new opportunity for all those deserving candidates who have become victims of systemic failure. Now, it remains to be seen what verdict the Supreme Court will deliver based on this application and how the fate of thousands of job seekers in the state will turn. We will keep an eye on further updates in this case.
