SSC SLST: Tainted Candidates Are Getting SLST Exam Admit Cards! RTI Campaign Initiated

SSC SLST: A new controversy has erupted around the State Level Selection Test (SLST) organized by the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC), with allegations that admit cards have been issued to several ineligible and unqualified candidates. This has caused a great deal of concern not only among job aspirants but also within the education community. Many believe this incident is pushing the ’25 recruitment process towards an uncertain future.

The Heart of the Controversy

The main allegation is that the School Service Commission has disobeyed orders from multiple courts, including the Supreme Court. The courts had clearly stated that ineligible candidates should not be allowed to participate in the new recruitment process. However, it is alleged that the commission has ignored this directive, allowing ineligible candidates to apply for the examination and has even issued admit cards in their names. As a result, thousands of ineligible candidates are getting the opportunity to sit for the new SLST exam, which is a major setback for qualified candidates.

Cause for Concern

This incident has created intense anger among the job aspirants. They fear that, like the 2016 SLST, this recruitment process could also get entangled in legal complications. If ineligible candidates sit for the exam and secure jobs, the entire recruitment process will be questioned, and the possibility of its cancellation in the future cannot be ruled out. To avoid this situation and to bring transparency to the recruitment process, the job aspirants are coming together.

The Path to a Solution: The RTI Campaign

To deal with this problem, a viral audio clip has suggested a new strategy. According to the plan, some important information will be sought from the commission using the Right to Information (RTI) Act. The main objectives of this RTI application are:

  • Total Number of Applicants: To know the exact number of applicants for classes 9, 10, 11, and 12.
  • Number of “Tainted” Candidates: To find out the class-wise data of how many ineligible candidates have applied.
  • Admit Card Information: To disclose the identity and number of “tainted” candidates who have been issued admit cards as per the Supreme Court’s verdict.

The protestors believe that this RTI campaign will put pressure on the commission’s activities. If the commission provides false information, legal action can be taken against the concerned official. And if the commission does not respond, a complaint will be filed in court alleging contempt of the Supreme Court’s order.

Future Steps

The job aspirants believe that this RTI application can be an important tool to bring transparency to the entire process. A similar RTI application played a crucial role in the cancellation of the 2016 panel. Therefore, they are hopeful that this step will help save the ’25 recruitment process from legal complications. It remains to be seen what steps the School Service Commission will take in this matter and which way this controversy will eventually turn.
