UTS App: UTS App To Be Discontinued From March 1 Know How To Book Local Train Tickets Now

UTS App: In the era of digitalization, the habit of standing in long queues at ticket counters is rapidly fading away. Whether it is the Metro, local trains, or long-distance journeys, passengers now prefer booking tickets with just a single click on their smartphones. To streamline this digital experience further, Indian Railways is implementing a significant change. The widely used ‘UTS’ (Unreserved Ticketing System) app is set to be discontinued soon. According to the Railway Board’s latest decision, passengers will now have to rely on a unified application named ‘RailOne’ for all their ticketing needs.

Major Changes Effective from March 1

Sources from the Railways indicate that starting March 1, unreserved tickets will no longer be available for booking via the UTS app. This means daily commuters of local or passenger trains, who were accustomed to this app, will need to shift to the new platform. Certain services on the UTS app have already been restricted. Currently, users can no longer book monthly season tickets (MST) through the UTS app. Upon opening the app, users are now being advised to switch to the ‘RailOne’ app. This new directive was announced through a statement issued by the Railways on the very first day of the year, January 1.

The Reason Behind the Move

The primary objective behind this decision is the consolidation of services. Until now, separate apps existed for reserved and unreserved tickets, which often led to confusion among passengers. The Railway Board aims to bring all ticketing services—be it platform tickets, unreserved local train tickets, or reserved long-distance tickets—under one roof. The ‘RailOne’ app has been revamped to serve this purpose. Although some passengers have claimed that ‘RailOne’ was previously not as popular or user-friendly as UTS for unreserved ticketing, the Railways authority is determined to integrate all facilities into this single app to ensure passenger convenience.

What Should Passengers Do?

A common concern arising among existing UTS users is whether they need to undergo the registration process again. The Railways has provided reassurance regarding this transition:

  • Login Process: Users who already have an account on the UTS app do not need to re-register on the ‘RailOne’ app.
  • Credentials: The existing ID and password used for the UTS app will work seamlessly for logging into the ‘RailOne’ app.
  • Seamless Transition: User data will be compatible with the new system, eliminating the need for fresh documentation.

Given the increasing trend of online ticket booking, the move towards a unified ‘Super App’ is seen as a crucial step in the modernization of Indian Railways. To avoid last-minute hassles, passengers are advised to familiarize themselves with the new app interface well before the deadline.
