Voter List Controversy: Name of 1 Voter in 40 Places! Explosive Information in Pandaveswar Before Vote, Political Debate Peaks
Voter List Controversy: Startling information has come to light during the voter list revision process in Pandaveswar, West Bengal, sparking a fresh wave of controversy in state politics. Ahead of the upcoming elections, an incident in Pandaveswar has raised serious questions about the transparency of the voter list. It has been alleged that the name of a single woman is registered in a total of 40 different places across the state. As soon as this strange discrepancy became public, a fierce war of words erupted between the ruling party and the opposition.
Origin of the Incident and Detailed Information
Mayarani Goswami is a resident of Booth No. 47 in DVC Para, Pandaveswar. Recently, she submitted her form during the ongoing voter list revision or enumeration process. As per the procedure, the QR code of her data was scanned while accepting the form. It was at this moment that the shocking information surfaced. The system revealed that Mayarani Devi’s name exists in the voter lists of 40 separate locations across West Bengal.
Whether this incident is a technical glitch in the election system or deliberate manipulation is now a subject of debate. To clarify the discrepancies further, a list is provided below:
| Details | Observation |
|---|---|
| Voter Name & Surname | Mayarani Goswami’s surname has been changed in various lists and registered differently at addresses including Baidyanathpur High School. |
| Variation in Husband’s Name | The most surprising aspect is the change in the husband’s name and surname. In some places, the husband’s name is listed as ‘Gour Roy’, elsewhere as ‘Gour Murmu’, ‘Gour Jana’, or even ‘Gour Adak’. |
What Does Mayarani Devi Say?
Naturally, the voter herself, Mayarani Devi, is bewildered by this incident. She has clearly stated that she is not aware of her name being anywhere else other than DVC Para and one other place. Speaking to the media, she said, “I already have a voter card; I don’t know how my name appeared in other places.” She claimed to have filled out the enumeration form herself but is completely in the dark about these numerous entries.

Seizing this incident, a political blame game has started between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
- BJP’s Allegation: BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari has termed this incident harmful to democracy. He alleged, “A woman’s name is found in 40-44 places across Bengal, which proves how necessary the SER (Special Summary Revision) or voter list correction is.” He further claimed that the TMC is creating fake voters to rig elections and that is why they are hindering the SER process.
- TMC’s Reaction: On the other hand, the ruling Trinamool Congress has denied all allegations. According to them, this could be a mechanical or data error by the Election Commission. The TMC argued that similar incidents happened in Haryana where the name of a model from outside the state was found in multiple places. Therefore, they believe it is a matter for the Election Commission to investigate, rather than blaming the TMC unnecessarily.
Digital Progress in Voter List Revision
Amidst this controversy, some positive news regarding the voter list revision and digitization process has also emerged. According to Election Commission sources:
- So far, 99.75% of enumeration forms, i.e., about 7 crore 64 lakh forms, have been distributed in the state.
- Out of this, 3 crore 77 lakh forms have been digitized, which is about 49.26% of the total work.
Notably, BLO Wahid Akram Mondal of Ranaghat North-East Assembly Constituency in Nadia and BLO Brishaketu Kuiri of Baghmundi Block in Purulia have achieved 100% form digitization and have been recognized by the Election Commission. Only time and investigation will tell whether the incident in Pandaveswar is an isolated case or indicates a deeper problem.
