WB DA Arrears: WB DA Arrears Delayed West Bengal State Govt Employees Threaten Massive Protest

WB DA Arrears: The standoff between the West Bengal government and state employees over Dearness Allowance (DA) shows no signs of resolution. Despite directives from the Supreme Court and a recent 4 percent hike announced by the state government, the situation remains volatile. Frustration is brewing among workers over unpaid long-term dues, which is now taking the shape of fresh protests.

Official Blueprint for Clearing Arrears

The state Finance Department recently issued a directive stating that pending DA for a total of 48 months, spanning from 2016 to 2019, will be cleared. It was decided that these dues would be disbursed in two separate installments. The first installment was scheduled for March of the current year, while the second is slated for September.

  • Mode of Payment: According to the government order, not all employees will receive the money directly in their bank accounts.
  • Group A, B, and C: The arrears for these three categories of employees will be credited directly to their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts.
  • Group D: Only employees in this category will receive their pending funds directly via bank transfer.

Why is Anger Mounting Despite Promises?

Although the month of March is drawing to a close, state government employees allege that they have not yet received any funds from the first installment. This delay has triggered massive outrage among the workforce. Many believe that the government is dragging its feet despite making official announcements.

Preparations to Hit the Streets Again

Due to the non-payment of funds, state government employees are gearing up for a massive agitation. Bhaskar Ghosh, the convener of the Sangrami Joutha Mancha, took to social media to urge employees to brace themselves for a renewed battle. He clearly stated that employees must hit the streets once again to claim their rightful dues.

While the exact date and location of this upcoming protest have not been officially announced, the reactions of employees on social media indicate severe discontent. Many are demanding a massive strike just before the upcoming elections. According to a section of the employees, there is no alternative to a larger movement to mount pressure on the government and snatch their legitimate rights.
