WB DA Arrears Update: Police submits copy of DA verdict in Nabanna! Employees to take to the streets on Sunday
WB DA Arrears Update: Following the recent directive from the Supreme Court regarding the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) for West Bengal state government employees, the movement has intensified significantly. The Sangrami Joutha Mancha organized a march to Nabanna yesterday, February 6, 2026, with the primary objective of serving the official copy of the Supreme Court’s verdict dated February 5, 2026, to the state administration. However, the event witnessed a dramatic turn of events right at the gates of the Secretariat.
Police Intervention and Silent Solidarity
As the representatives of the joint forum attempted to proceed towards Nabanna to submit the court order, they were intercepted by a heavy deployment of officers from the Howrah Police Commissionerate. The employees were denied entry into the premises. However, amidst this standoff, an unprecedented gesture was observed.
According to the employee organization, although they were stopped, the on-duty police personnel themselves took the responsibility to submit the document on behalf of the protesters. The Sangrami Joutha Mancha interprets this act as a clear signal that the lower-rung police personnel also feel the pinch of DA deprivation. By assisting the protesters, the uniformed officers silently conveyed their message to the government that they too stand united with other employees on the issue of financial deprivation.
The Supreme Court’s Directive: Key Details
The Supreme Court has set a strict deadline for the state government regarding the payments. As per the order, the state must clear 25% of the arrears of Dearness Allowance to all state government employees and pensioners by March 31, 2026. Armed with this verdict, the joint forum is now escalating its agitation. However, leaders of the movement have expressed skepticism, fearing that the state government might lack the “goodwill” to implement this order promptly or might try to delay the process further.
Call for Massive Gathering this Sunday
To exert maximum pressure on the government and ensure the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court’s order, a massive protest rally has been scheduled for the coming Sunday, February 8. The Sangrami Joutha Mancha has issued a call to action for all government employees to gather at Subodh Mallick Square at 12:00 PM. A protest march will be organized from this location.
The leadership has sent a strong message that the time has come to ensure one’s presence personally rather than relying solely on legal battles. With the clock ticking towards the March 31 deadline, the organization urges everyone to join the movement to send a stern warning to the administration. This Sunday’s rally is considered a critical step in the ongoing struggle for their rightful dues.
