WB DA Arrears: West Bengal Govt Employees to Receive Pending DA Arrears First Installment in March

WB DA Arrears: West Bengal state government employees and teachers finally have a reason to rejoice as the long-standing dispute over pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears is reaching a conclusion. Following strict directives from the Supreme Court, the state administration has taken decisive steps to clear the dues. The Finance Department has already issued the necessary notifications to initiate the payment process starting this month, keeping officials at the state secretariat highly occupied with the final calculations.

When and How Will the Arrears Be Paid?

The biggest relief for the workforce comes in the form of a structured payment timeline. According to the latest government blueprint, the arrears accumulated between January 2016 and December 2019 will be disbursed in two distinct phases. For the first installment, exactly half of the total pending amount for this four-year block will be credited to the employees’ bank accounts in the current month of March. The remaining fifty percent is scheduled to be cleared right before the festive season, in September, ensuring solid financial support before Durga Puja.

The Mechanism Behind the DA Calculation

The exact amount an employee will receive is fundamentally tied to their Basic Pay. The financial framework being used to calculate these arrears factors in the historical gap between the Dearness Allowance rates of the Central and State governments stretching from April 1, 2008, to December 1, 2019. Since the calculations are rooted in the varied pay scales of the Fifth Pay Commission, the final payout will naturally differ from one individual to another. Finance officials are currently working round the clock to ensure these complex assessments are entirely error-free.

Estimated Payouts Based on Basic Pay

To give a clearer picture, the expected dues vary significantly across different salary brackets. For instance, an employee with a Basic Pay of Rs. 7,000 can expect a total arrear of approximately Rs. 1,94,400 for the 2016-2019 period. Out of this, roughly Rs. 74,700 is expected to be disbursed in March itself. If the entire gap from 2008 is considered, the total dues for the same base salary could shoot up to Rs. 3,19,890.

Similarly, individuals drawing a Basic Pay of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 might see cumulative arrears of around Rs. 4,57,140 and Rs. 6,85,720, respectively. This substantial financial infusion has understandably brought a wave of optimism among the government staff across various departments.
