WB New OBC List: The Government of West Bengal, through its Backward Classes Welfare Department, has released a new and revised list of Other Backward Classes (OBC). This new list, notified up to June 3, 2025, is crucial for job aspirants and students in the state. Key Features of the New OBC List
In the new list published by the West Bengal government, a total of 140 communities have been included as OBC. This list is divided into two main categories: More Backward (Category-A) and Backward (Category-B). This classification plays a significant role in the implementation of reservations and other government benefits.
- More Backward (Category-A): A total of 49 communities have been placed in this category. Those in this category receive priority in reservations.
- Backward (Category-B): This category includes a total of 91 communities.
Recent Additions
Several new communities have been included in this new list, and the notifications for some older communities have been amended. Recently, especially through notifications dated May 27, 2025, and June 3, 2025, many new communities have been added, with a notable inclusion of various Muslim groups.
For instance, communities such as ‘Sekh/Seikh’, ‘Khan (Muslim)’, ‘Muslim Molla’, and many other Muslim communities have been newly included in the OBC list. Alongside these, communities like ‘Nepali Brahmin’ and ‘Sadgope/Sadgop’ have also been added.
Category-wise Division
Category-A (More Backward): This list includes communities such as Kumbhakar, Napit, Yogi, Nath, Jolah (Ansari-Momin), and Nashya-Sekh.
Category-B (Backward): This list includes communities like Kapali, Baishya Kapali, Kurmi, Sutradhar, Karmakar, Swarnakar, Teli, Kolu, Moira (Halwai), Barujibi, Malakar, Kansari, and Shankakar.
