WB Pay Commission: No New Pay Commission Without 40% DA Hike, Warns Malay Mukhopadhyay

WB Pay Commission: In a recent video message, Shri Malay Mukhopadhyay, the General Secretary of the Confederation of State Government Employees, has once again strongly raised the demand for pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and a new pay commission for state government employees. His speech clearly highlighted the huge disparity in DA between central and state government employees, which has angered millions of government workers in West Bengal. In this article, we will highlight the main points of his speech and analyze some important aspects arising from it.
Huge Difference in DA
According to Shri Mukhopadhyay, central government employees are receiving a total of 58% DA under the 7th Pay Commission, whereas West Bengal government employees are receiving only 18% DA under the 6th Pay Commission. This difference amounts to a massive 40%. He mentioned that the central government recently completed the 20th installment of DA for its 7th Pay Commission by announcing a further 3% DA, increasing the total DA for central employees from 55% to 58%. On the other hand, state government employees are still deprived of 40% DA, which is severely impacting their cost of living.
Demand for a New Pay Commission
Shri Mukhopadhyay has unequivocally stated that a new pay commission cannot be implemented in the state until this pending 40% DA is cleared. According to him, while the central government is moving towards implementing its new pay commission from January 1, 2026, West Bengal employees are being deprived of their rightful dues. Seeking redressal for this injustice, they had filed a court case regarding the 5th Pay Commission’s DA, and he is optimistic that the verdict will be announced in October.
Legal Battle and Future Course of Action
The General Secretary of the Confederation of State Government Employees also added that if the court’s verdict comes in favor of the employees, the employee community knows very well how to collect those pending DA arrears. His statement makes it clear that they are determined to achieve their demands and are prepared to launch a larger movement if necessary. The outcome of this legal battle will play a crucial role in determining the future of West Bengal’s government employees.

Overall, Shri Malay Mukhopadhyay’s message is a stark reflection of the long-standing demands and sense of deprivation among state government employees. On one hand, the growing disparity with central employees, and on the other, the indifference of the state government has pushed them to the wall. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming court verdict will turn the tide in their favor and what steps the state government will take in this matter. However, one thing is clear: the state government employees are no longer willing to compromise on their rights.
