WBBSE Guidelines: WBBSE Issues Strict Guidelines For Madhyamik Answer Script Evaluation Process

WBBSE Guidelines: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has issued a comprehensive set of strict guidelines regarding the evaluation of Madhyamik examination answer scripts. In a notification dated February 25, 2026, the Board addressed Examiners, Head Examiners, and Scrutineers, emphasizing the need for absolute transparency and security in the evaluation process. The Board has taken a stern stance to ensure that the hard work of students is respected and evaluated with the utmost care.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the critical instructions issued by the Board to overhaul the traditional practices and enhance the safety of answer scripts:

Strict Restrictions on Evaluation Venues

The Board has imposed a significant ban regarding the location of answer script evaluation. It has been observed in the past that teachers often evaluate scripts in school staff rooms or public areas. The WBBSE has explicitly stated that evaluating answer scripts in public places is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, checking papers inside the school staff room is also banned. Examiners must select a safe, secure, and private location for evaluation where unauthorized individuals cannot intervene.

Safety and Preservation of Answer Scripts

Special attention must be paid to protect the scripts from natural calamities or accidental damage.

  • Lock and Key Custody: When the evaluation work is paused or completed for the day, the answer scripts must be kept securely under ‘Lock and Key’.
  • Weather Protection: The scripts must be stored in a manner that protects them from rain or moisture. Any damage to the scripts due to negligence or exposure to elements will be treated as a serious lapse in duty.

Confidentiality of Instructions

During the evaluation process, the Board provides specific ‘instructions’ or marking schemes to the examiners. Teachers are strictly forbidden from discussing these instructions or the content written by students with any unauthorized third party. The marking scheme and specific evaluation directives must be kept completely confidential. The Board has warned teachers to ensure that this sensitive information is never disclosed in the public domain.

Adherence to Deadlines

The evaluation process must be completed strictly within the timeline prescribed by the Board. The schedule for submitting the ‘First Installment’ and ‘Second Installment’ of evaluated scripts must be followed to the letter. Examiners are required to submit the answer scripts by the specified dates to ensure there is no delay in the result publication process.

Failure to comply with these guidelines may be viewed as negligence of duty. Therefore, all involved teachers have been requested to maintain the highest level of caution and cooperation in this sensitive task.
