HS Exam Update: Big Changes in Higher Secondary Exam! New Guidelines regarding Three Colored Question Papers and Admit Cards
WBCHSE Exam Update: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has announced a series of significant changes to the regulations for the upcoming semester and annual examinations. These new guidelines have been issued to ensure transparency in the state’s education system and to streamline the examination process. It is crucial for students, guardians, and school authorities to be well-informed about these new rules, especially regarding the color-coding of question paper packets and strict instructions on answer scripts.
Color Coding for Question Paper Packets
To prevent any confusion during the distribution of question papers at examination centers, specific colors have been assigned to question paper packets this year. The Council has clearly stated which color packet will be used for which semester or syllabus. This measure is expected to simplify the task for examiners and invigilators significantly.
The details regarding the packet colors for different exams are provided in the table below:
| Exam Type / Semester | Packet Color |
|---|---|
| Fourth Semester | White |
| Third Semester | Yellow |
| Higher Secondary (Old Syllabus) | Blue |
Online Admit Card Distribution Process
Moving towards digitization, the Higher Secondary Council has introduced a major change in the distribution of admit cards. According to the guidelines, arrangements have been made for online admit cards instead of direct physical dispatch for Fourth Semester candidates.

Join on TelegramThe Council will send a specific link to the schools for downloading the admit cards. School authorities must download the admit cards using that link, print them, and hand them over to the students. This is expected to resolve issues related to lost admit cards or delays in delivery.
Exam Timing and OMR Sheet Rules
Changes have also been made to the timing for the benefit of the students. Candidates will be allotted an extra 10 minutes before the official start of the exam. This time is allocated for two main purposes:
- Filling OMR Sheets: To allow students to fill in their name, roll number, and other necessary details on the OMR sheet calmly.
- Reading Time: To read the question paper thoroughly.
This additional time will help reduce students’ stress and prevent errors.
Strict Limits on Answer Script Pages
The most critical point students must keep in mind is the limit on the answer script. According to the Council’s new guidelines, Fourth Semester candidates will be provided with a specific 24-page booklet for writing their answers.
Warning: The Council has explicitly stated that no extra pages or ‘loose sheets’ will be provided beyond these 24 pages. Therefore, students must limit their answers within the provided booklet. It is essential for students to start practicing writing concise and to-the-point answers to adhere to this limit.
