After a long wait, the Public Service Commission, West Bengal (PSCWB) has finally released the official notification (Advertisement No. 08/2024) for the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) Etc. Examination, 2024. Along with this, the complete scheme and syllabus for the exam have also been published. This is a huge opportunity for thousands of candidates. The online application process is set to begin on November 18, 2025.

According to the notification, the tentative dates for application and examination are as follows:
- Online Application Starts: November 18, 2025
- Last Date for Online Application Submission: December 9, 2025 (up to 3:00 PM)
- Last Date for Online Fee Payment: December 9, 2025 (up to 3:00 PM)
- Edit Window: December 12, 2025, to December 18, 2025 (up to 3:00 PM)
- Tentative Date for Preliminary Exam: March 2026 or around that time
Educational Qualification and Age Limit
Educational Qualification: The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree (Graduate) from a recognized university.

Join on TelegramLanguage Proficiency: The applicant must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali. However, this condition does not apply to candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali. Proficiency in Bengali will be tested during the Personality Test.
Age Limit (as of January 1, 2024):
- Group ‘A’ and ‘C’: 21 to 36 years.
- Group ‘B’ (West Bengal Police Service): 20 to 36 years.
- Group ‘D’: 21 to 39 years.
- SC/ST candidates from West Bengal will get an upper age relaxation of 5 years, and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates will get a relaxation of 3 years.
New Scheme and Syllabus for WBCS 2024 Exam
The WBCS examination is divided into two parts: a Written Examination and a Personality Test. The written exam will be conducted in two stages: Preliminary and Main.
1. Preliminary Examination
This is a screening test, and its marks are not included in the final merit list.
- Paper: It will consist of one paper on “General Studies.”
- Total Marks: 200 (200 Multiple-Choice Questions or MCQs).
- Duration: 2.5 hours.
- Negative Marking: There will be negative marking for incorrect answers.

2. Main Examination
The Main exam will consist of 6 compulsory papers and, for Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts, two papers of one optional subject.

- Paper I: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali (Conventional type)
- Paper II: English (Conventional type)
- Paper III: General Studies-I (Indian History & Geography) (MCQ)
- Paper IV: General Studies-II (Science, Technology, Environment, GK, Current Affairs) (MCQ)
- Paper V: The Constitution of India and Indian Economy (MCQ)
- Paper VI: Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning (MCQ)
3. Personality Test
Candidates who clear the Main exam will be called for this test.
- Group ‘A’ and ‘B’: 200 Marks
- Group ‘C’: 150 Marks
- Group ‘D’: 100 Marks

Application Process
Interested and eligible candidates can apply only through the official online portal. An application fee of ₹210 is applicable. However, SC/ST and PwBD (40% disability or more) candidates from West Bengal are exempted from paying any fee.
