WBSSC Recruitment: SSC Cracks Down on ‘Tainted’ Candidates, 269 Identified and Barred from Ongoing Recruitment

WBSSC Recruitment Update: In a significant development ensuring transparency in the state’s teacher recruitment process, the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has identified and barred 269 ‘tainted’ candidates. Despite a strict directive from the Supreme Court prohibiting ineligible candidates involved in the previous recruitment scam from participating, these individuals had appeared for the fresh recruitment exams. The Commission confirmed this action through a notification issued on Friday.

269 ‘Tainted’ Job Seekers Caught During Verification

Following the massive recruitment scam that led to the cancellation of the entire 2016 panel by the Supreme Court, a fresh recruitment drive was initiated. The Apex Court had explicitly stated that those identified as ‘tainted’ or having secured jobs illegally in the past could not participate in the new process. However, during the ongoing document verification for Class XI-XII teacher recruitment, the Commission discovered a breach.

  • A total of 269 candidates have been identified so far who were previously marked as ‘invalid’ or ‘tainted’.
  • The list includes aspirants for both teaching positions and non-teaching staff (Group C and Group D).
  • These individuals had managed to sit for the written exam and even qualify for the verification stage before being caught.

Commission’s Stance and Future Actions

The SSC has taken immediate action by removing these names from the recruitment process. The Commission has reiterated its commitment to adhering to the Supreme Court’s order. While questions are being raised about how these candidates were issued admit cards in the first place, the Commission clarified that the rigorous verification stage is designed to filter out such discrepancies.

Furthermore, the SSC has issued an open call to all genuine candidates and the public to report any other ‘tainted’ names that might still be present in the merit or verification lists. Upon verification, such names will also be promptly removed.

Ongoing Verification Process

The document verification process is currently in full swing and is scheduled to continue until December 4, 2025. Out of 35 subjects for Class XI-XII, verification for 31 subjects has been completed. The interview process for major subjects like Bengali and English is also underway.

Key Insight: Sources within the Commission suggest that as verification for the remaining subjects continues, the number of rejected ‘tainted’ candidates may rise. This move is expected to clear the path for genuine and deserving merit candidates who have been waiting for years.
