WBSSC Teacher: The Delhi March of Bengal’s Deprived Teachers on July 21st – A Historic Step for Justice

WBSSC Teacher: On July 21st, while the city of Kolkata will be bustling with a rally of the ruling party, a group of deprived teachers will be silently preparing to take their fight for rights to a new level. Thousands of deserving teachers, appointed through the 2016 SLST (State Level Selection Test) but who have faced deprivation and humiliation to this day, are setting off for the capital, Delhi, to demand their rightful justice. Their historic journey will begin from Howrah, Malda, and Sealdah stations, with the primary goal of presenting their plight to the country’s top leadership and documenting their history of deprivation during the Parliament’s monsoon session.

Why This Delhi March?

The main objective of this protest program is to highlight their issues on a national stage and to appeal for intervention from the central government and opposition parties. With the parliamentary session starting on July 21st, these deprived teachers from Bengal have planned a series of activities to leverage this time to press their demands.

  • Sit-in Protest at Ramlila Maidan: Upon reaching Delhi, they will hold a peaceful sit-in protest at the historic Ramlila Maidan. Through this demonstration, they aim to convey their message to the people of the country.
  • Meeting with the President and Prime Minister: Their delegation will meet with the President, Prime Minister, and opposition leaders to inform them of their problems. They are hopeful that the nation’s highest leadership will listen to the injustice done to them and take appropriate action.
  • Press Conference and Discussion with Civil Society: A press conference and a discussion forum have been organized at the Delhi Press Club on July 24th. Members of Delhi’s civil society, teachers, and other prominent personalities have been invited to this event to ensure their issues reach a wider audience.
  • Distribution of Leaflets and Posters: Efforts will also be made to raise public awareness by distributing leaflets and putting up posters throughout Delhi.

Supernumerary Posts and the Legal Battle

Alongside this movement, these teachers are continuing their legal battle. A review petition has been filed concerning supernumerary posts, which is directly linked to their case. They hope that this review petition will lead to an open court hearing, which could bring a positive outcome for them. According to their lawyers, since the main objective of challenging the panel has been achieved, this review petition will only strengthen their fight.

This Delhi march by the deprived teachers is not just a protest; it is a bold step against their long-standing struggle, deprivation, and humiliation. They hope that through this journey, their problems will be resolved, and they will soon regain their honor and rights. We wish them success in this historic struggle.
