OBC Case Hearing: SSC, College Admissions in Limbo! Big Update on the Supreme Court OBC Case

OBC Case Hearing: The Supreme Court has once again postponed the hearing of the OBC reservation case. This adjournment is due to the illness of the Chief Justice. Initially scheduled for July 15, 2025, the hearing is now tentatively expected to take place on July 22, 2025. This development has caused significant anxiety and frustration among job aspirants and students in West Bengal and across the country.

Why is this hearing so crucial?

The future of several important recruitment and admission processes in West Bengal depends on the verdict of this case. The results of the School Service Commission (SSC), college admissions, and many other competitive exams are on hold pending this case. Until a verdict is delivered, the state’s OBC reservation policy cannot be finalized, bringing the entire process to a standstill.

Reason for the Postponement

The hearing was postponed because the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is hospitalized due to a severe infection. The case was scheduled to be heard by his bench. Since this is a new case, it has not been transferred to another bench in his absence. Only matters that were already partially heard (“part-heard matters”) are being shifted to other benches.

What processes will be affected?

This adjournment has created a deadlock in several processes. The most significant ones include:

  • School Service Commission (SSC): Although the last date for form submission is July 21, many candidates are unable to complete their applications because the details of OBC reservation are not clear. Consequently, there is a strong possibility that this deadline will be extended.
  • College Admissions: The last date for college admissions through the WBCAAP portal is also July 15. Due to the lack of clarity on OBC reservation, this process might also be suspended and the deadline extended.
  • Results of Various Exams: The results of several major exams such as WBJEE, JENPAS UG, GNM-ANM, JELET, and JECA are all delayed because of this pending case.

This situation has led to widespread frustration among the state’s job aspirants and students. Many feel that their future has become uncertain due to this prolonged delay. All eyes are now on when this case will finally be resolved and when the recruitment processes will get back on track.
